Dodge Ram Truck

A friend of mine has a son that sells Dodge trucks and I promised him I'd give them a good look. In considering a larger trailers we're looking at, we decided to start looking at another truck so we're ready.....should the right deal come along.

I looked at the Ram and was wondering if anybody on here has had or heard of any experiences with the new air ride system that Dodge is offering in their 2015 trucks?

We are looking for a new one again also. I was wondering about the air ride system also. We were thinking about the mega cab with the AISIN 4.73 tranny, plus much more but was unsure about the air ride. Hope someone has something to offer on this.

The 5th wheels I've been looking at all have 3 axles and are heavy. I still love my Redwood and I believe they're a great value for the money. I'm keeping it for a while longer but if the right deal came along.....I'd probably go for it. Ginny really needs a permanent desk without giving up kitchen or living space.

One of the trailers I'm considering weighs 19k from the factory (actual) and my truck is good for 21500 (stock). So I've got 2500lbs to play with if I stick to this particular trailer. I guess I have to lose some weight

I've heard good things about the newest Rams, but nothing at all about the air ride.

I have been a long time RAM guy mainly because of the cumins. They really stepped up to the plate with frame, transmission and front end but I am always leary of an "new' change and I have talked to a lot of dealerships none to me seem to be able to answer detailed questions about the air ride. The videos make it look like a great setup but again I am a wait and see kind of guy. I do wish they would offer a 4500 with a truck box, I like the bigger wheels brakes and everything else

I think I'm going to give this some time to work out too. I'm in no real hurry. I'm interested to see what the 2016's are going to look like. Information should be out in a few months.

The Ram air ride is not an "air ride" like your Kelderman. It would be comparable to Firestone Ride Rites as it levels the truck when you put a load in it. It doesn't increase payload either.

4.73 gears , there goes the fuel mileage. What kind of rpm's are you turning at 70 mph?

I'm running 373 gears now and if I buy a new truck, it would have the 430 gears.

After actually getting the 3.73 and enjoying the fuel mileage over my 4.10s, I still think I would get the 4.30 next time. I can definitely feel a loss in pull with these 3.73 over what I had, even with the 6 sp vs 5 sp.

For me with the 373 I get great mileage and I drop down a gear and pull through the mountains at 60. 410's could pull stumps but I think 430's would be overkill. With my Dodge running 373 the "sweet" spot is 2000rpm and I am running around 70mph. 1750 is where the torque starts to peak and around 2600 rpm for the HP. These big six's have big bottom end torque and run lower RPMs compared to the Ford/Chevy V8 that is why you will see more and more "professional" people pulling big loads go for the cumins BUT I must say Ford has really stepped up to the plate. The bottom line for what we are doing the are all good trucks, its just what you're comfortable with

Dan, I'm surprised your sweet spot is as high as 2,000 with the 6 banger. I would have thought it would be lower.

The sweet spot really changed on these power strokes between the 7.3 and the new ones as well. That 7.3 seemed real happy down around 1,200 rpm and could lug all day. The 6.0 need to stay wound up to get anywhere. I haven't quite decided on this 6.7 yet, but I still only have 3,000 miles on it so it's in infancy yet.

Brad that 7.3 power stroke was a great engine. Ya mine will pull no problem down around 1200 but was told by and old cumins tech don't lug them (hard on tranny too) and I do like tromping on it and pulling out flying by those sports cars

Mine gets the best economy at around 17-1800 RPM. I usually run around 75 which is around 2100

I wish I could remember but I'm sure my 6.4 with 4.10s was up by 2400 at 75. At 75 mileage dropped to 9 mpg. at 55 it got 21 mpg.

Those of you with F450s and the 4.30s, what are you turning at 75 mph? 24-2500?

on the newer 6.7 ford's, max torque is right around 1600 rpm ...

since I got a little tune (+ 157 HP & +180 lb-ft (2011-2014 6.7L))
it seems a bit stronger there, so haven't figured out where it likes it the best...

Just wondering at what rpm on the 6.0 did it start leaving engine parts strewn about the highway?? LOL!
