sewer cables and valves

Hi: I have 2013 RW that the cables work really hard and I dont know if its in the cables or valves so I was thinking of replacing both as the gray water leeks
out the drain a little.
The RV is in storage right now but I want to plan ahead.
How big of a pain is it replacing them and what's involved. I know you have to remove the under side panel.
Thanks Roger

Before you replace the cables try putting a 1/4 cup of vegtable oil in each tank after you dump and close the valves. Sometime the rubber seals make the valves very hard to open, it made a noticeable difference in my valves. When I pull out of a site or dump station, I try to do this every other time with a few gallons of water .it worked for me.

Agree that adding oil to the tanks should help lubricate the seals the hard to push/pull cables probably need lubrication. Look for cable lubricators. Amazon and others have many kinds. Easier to try than replacing valves.

I have replaced the black tank valve. Wasn’t too hard but not fun either. Quite a few of us have installed a Valterra T58 valve on the end of our termination. Stops all the fluid that might be dripping by the valve. Under $25 and quick to install.

I have replaced my grey and black tank valves on my 2018 3901 WB and have not had a problem since and I full time. I ordered the valterra valves on Amazon. During the replacement process you can reroute the cables to have as short of run as possible. Don't be afraid to drill new holes for the cables and eliminate sharp and unnecessary bends. All this will make them work great for a long time. My gaskets and cables were installed improperly from the factory leading to leaks and difficult operation. Once you gain access to the valves it's not to bad of a job. Drain and flush tanks really well and then use your jacks to cause the liquid that is left to run away from the outlet of the tank you are working on. Being that it is a 2013 the seals may need replacement anyway.
Good luck.

Replaced seals only

I do not remember if the seals came from the dealer or from
Amazon, but after opening up the belly insulation, it was only 4 stainless steal nuts and bolts. Slipping out the creased rubber seal and putting back the replacements probably only too about 45 minutes. I hated the idea of black water coming out and dreaded it, yet it wasn't bad. Probably tilted the RV toward the passenger side, because nothing came out!!!!

The cables on my 2020 have never worked great... While I had it at the repair shop 2 year's ago to fix the heat ducts I asked them to look at it.

He told me that he was NOT interested in working on them as they would have to completely lower the black tank to get to my 2 grey tank valves.

Since then they have been hit or miss so I found a guy that specializes in RV remodeling in NJ. He Customs makes all types of stuff for mostly big expensive class A's... I was told his name by 2 friends, So I called and name drooped, he is taking it Mid-March to drop the black tank, and replace all valves and cables with something he said was heavy duty. He said in 40 years, he never had one come back due to that issue again....

Once I know what he uses, I will post that

Rather than open up the under belly you might try taking down the basement bulkhead, loosening the nut on the t handle in the convenience center & try to twist some of the bends out of the cable routing to create as straight a path as possible. They typically use a standard 6' cable, if you buy a replacement it'll most likely be 6', they put a couple figure 8s in it to take up the extra which then pulls the valve at a 90 degree angle.

Thanks Danny, I already did that once.... I think I have the figure 8x2 on each cable.. Not to mention the tech that said he didn't want to get into it told me he believes the valves are also facing the wrong way of the cable.?? I would rather pay once and hopefully never worry about it again...

Anybody know what the black plastic underbelly material is called? I need to replace mine after a nasty spill, can't get the smell out of it.

Search coroplast or corroplast and include RV. That should get you started.
