I am looking for opinions on 50 amp surge protectors
(needed/not needed) and if post or hardwired is better.

I have a 50 amp Hughes Autoformer in our current unit that I have hard wired in. I installed it as soon as we bought our trailer and I would highly recommend some kind of surge protection. I have seen our unit come on and boost power in a couple of older parks we have stayed in before. I will be moving this to our next unit.

Thanks for the info, Hunter11. We are picking our 36RE up this Friday and I will be hardwiring a 50 in it on Saturday. We too have had electrical surges from different parks. Enjoy life!

I think I paid about $500 for the Autoformer and hard wire kit which was a lot to spend after just buying a new trailer. But I figured if we had a power spike or drop at a park somewhere and it blew out one or all of our major electrical appliances it would have more than paid for itself.

I see you are in Waco, we are having a Texas Crossroads Rally in April at Buckhorn Lake Resort just outside Kerrville if you are interested in joining us. I already have one Redwood owner signed up. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you the information or you can find my post here about it.

Absolutely! we are Park Volunteers at Lake Waco. One of our goals is to be able to travel a bit more around the area and meet as many RVers as possible. Thanks for the invite.

Kerry, below is the link to the park and the dates for the rally are 4/20 - 4/22. Some of us will be arriving a day early and some will be staying into the next week. If you call to make reservations tell them you are with the Crossroads Rally group.

Once you have your reservation email me at the address below so I can get a couple of other things from you. Hope you can make it!
