update... after no return calls from Crossroads asking for options... our Norcold is NOmore... took it out and put in a Fisher & Paykel counter depth bottom freezer residential. I REALLY REALLY want to ship the POS to Redwood COD!

I checked our top vent outside and there is about 2/3rds of it covered with a panel. The fan runs but only has about 1/3 the opening to push air out.
Is that right?

I have contacted Norcold... their reply was to have a certified tech look at it BUT there are no authorized service facilities/techs within 100 miles of our current location.

The vents are restricted to the help the fans pull air more effectively. A big hole would be like trying to blow a candle out standing two+ feet away. Put a paper towel tube in the mix and and you have results.

That is correct and the way it is supposed to be. The panel allows the fans to force the air up past the fins to draw the heat out of the fins. Don't remove the panel or you will decrease the efficiency of the fans to do their job.

So how may Fisher-Paykel authorized service centers are there within 100 miles of your current location? Just saying...don't think you gave that Norcold a fair chance.
But it sounds like you like what you have now so its a good thing.

Back to Lowes if the Fisher-Paykel craps out 4 failures over 6 weeks and not knowing if the food was going to be thawed from one hour to the next was all the time we could afford to give the Norcold since we live in our Redwood full time and move every 3-4 months for work. It's not just a matter of having a jar of mayo and a few cold cuts go bad... yes, we are very happy with the F-P... thanks all of your thoughts. LOVE our 36FL

I personally don't like Norcold's customer service. Their answer is ALWAYS to take it to an authorized service center regardless. I don't think they would even begin to offer any advice over the phone even with a disclaimer. It's like a law firm runs their customer service...

How does the fp fit in the original space? Does the slide still operate without the fridge hitting the island?

we had to get a counter depth model, 17.9 cubic feet... it is no deeper than the handle on the oven. It's a little over an inch narrower but taller by 2-3 inches. Love it! no more defrosting every 2 weeks! ordered it from Lowes
