Just had ours replaced. The recliners didn't have removable backs, but putting them on their sides they can be removed out the door. We didn't have the Sleeper Sofa, the the backs did come off ours...

Yes, they are heavy, but Ann and I removed one of ours for a while when we need the space for something else, then later returned it. And without going into details, we're both retired and drawing...

We have done the same as Shane, turned it on it's side and the back will go, followed by the base.
