Auto shops will need to update their equipment for sure. I've heard easily in the 10s of thousands of dollars. However, I'm anxious to seek greater load capacity and a more durable body.

Unfortunately that's not entirely accurate. I think if you live in an area with a lot of European vehicles the body shops are more equipped to handle AL bodies. My Land Rover Discovery suffered massive hail damage about 8 years ago and Paintless Dent Repair managed to make it look entirely like new. I don't think that this will be very much of an issue once these become even more mainstream.

I was looking at the 2015 F450 that Classy Chassis brought to the Hershey show yesterday. I asked him how bad the mileage was with the 430 gearing. He said that he got 15 MPG’s coming to the show TOWING a flat bed with the full size Chevy on it. Thats about 10,000lbs and not very aero at all lots of drag. So the only thing I can think of is the larger 19.5 tires must have helped the gearing? Does anyone here have a 2015 F450 and what is your MPG’s?

It would be important to know what "speed" he was towing at. That can be the difference between 11 and 21 from the same truck (not towing).

15 sounds pretty incredible - more like a fish story

Gotta agree, remember he is selling them. Whenever a salesman makes a statement like this I ask them to put it in writing ..... Never wasted any appear or ink as of yet!

I would agree, the medium duty trucks I'm looking at are saying 10-12 towing and 13-15 solo. I don't know who to believe but wind and speed is a major factor in all these trucks

FX-4 IS nothing more then skid plates, re-branded and painted motor-craft shocks and decals for $280.

My shocks were shot at one year.

The skid plates are available for a $100 option. Save your money and put it towards Bilstein's.

I've been hankering for a CC hauler bed for several years now.
Did you know that bed adds 1000 pounds over the stock bed to the truck weight?

If we're talking F-250/350 then FX4 also includes Hill Decent Control which is basically some programming and a switch.

Also FWIW, I upgraded to Bilstein shocks on my 25K mile truck and honestly can't tell any difference between them and the stock rebranded Rancho shocks. If I were to do it again I'd probably leave the stockers on for a while. The change in Steering Damper made a huge difference though.

The hill descent switch is not supplied on DRW models.

Also interesting, on my sticker under FX4 Off-Road Package it says "Less Tire Inflation Monitor". Took me and the Dealer a while to figure out what that meant, but Fords TPMS does not have the capability to monitor 6 wheels so they delete it. Not sure if that was associated with the FX4 or the 14000# GVWR Package below that.

Chrome package is also kind of a rip on the Diesel too, because it comes with chrome tailpipe (except dually), but no price difference for that option on the diesel. Mine didn't have it so I just bought some chrome skull caps for the mirrors on ebay.

I think it was a rip off as well. I got chrome tow hooks in the front, chrome tie downs in the bed, chrome mirror covers and the chrome exhaust tip that I took off when I put the after market exhaust on it. My SRW f350 had automatic 4x4 and this truck doesn't. I'm not sure if it's available on the dually.

The rancho shocks though are really not "RANCHO's"...

Yes, they were made buy rancho, but to Ford's very bad specs... they have really hurt rancho's reputation in that most are replacing them with other shocks within a few miles...

Mine were shot at < 10k miles...

How do you decide they are shot? Oil out the top?

I've never replaced a shock yet. Had OEM Ranchos on my 2006 with 75K miles. Guess I'm not that perceptive of the ride.

Lack of rebound, etc... do a search over on fte - saw you joined... many do it...
when I pulled them off one stayed at full extension, 1 stayed fully compressed, and the other 2 were somewhere in between...

the new rancho 9000 adjustables however are great ! even at their highest setting I like them better.
