Toilet overflow onto Converter

A couple of days ago the water valve on the toilet started sticking open allowing a trickle of water into the bowl. A little upward pressure on the foot pedal would stop the leak. I ordered a replacement valve. Before I could get it replaced we had an toilet overflow that spread water to the kitchen. The valve must have begun leaking after use. Cleaned up the water and thought it was all good. The next evening the campground water was shut off during an extreme cold spell here in Louisiana so I started using the water pump. The next day the lights started to flicker, water pump cycling and Norcold showing DCLO message. Checked the batteries. Empty! Checked the breaker to the converter/Charger. Thrown. When I reset the breaker I got a loud pop and smoke. I guess the water got to the converter. So Iím replacing water valve and converter. Any words on converter replacement?

While replacing stuff, return the valve repair kit, throw out the Thetford toilet & replace with a Dometic 310 or 320, as the Thetford WILL leak again if the foot pedal, which is half the price of the Dometic toilet, doesn't fall off first.

I have had similar problem with Thetford valve sticking and causing water bowl to overflow. Try to remember and hold flush lever upward after toilet is flushed. Considering replacing complete toilet with Dometic.
Is it normal for RV toilets for the bowl to be dry or should they hold water in bowl like toilet in houses. Sometimes it holds water but most of the time it leaks out of bowl into black water tank. Another reason to replace complete assembly. Thanks for response.

Once per year, I dry out the water from the bowl and spray the seals on the valve with silicone while working the valve back and forth. That really helps the valve seal and close much better. But, I also have a Dometic 310 toilet. By doing this procedure, I have never had a problem of the valve not fully closing after use.

First of all thank you all for the recommendation for the Dometic. It is on our list of upgrades now. Here’s the weird issue with the leaking valve though. When the city of New Iberia finally restored the water to full pressure this morning the leaky valve stopped leaking. Coincidence or does the water pressure help close the valve? When it leaks again I will go with the Dometic. I took an additional precaution though and caulked around the bathroom floor to prevent a flood down the wall and into the kitchen should it happen again.
I completed the converter/charger replacement this afternoon without any issues.
Life is good.

Yes! The low water pressure affected the Thetford toilet, not the Dometic. Also if you let the foot pedal slam closed hard it wouldn't leak. The Dometic toilet you'll find to be a 110% improvement over the POS Thetford. The Thetford made a great target for my sons new 45 & in my opinion that's all it was good for.

hahaha! I see that stuff suffers the same demise at your house as it does mine! I had an Apollo convection oven from our Montana that suffered the same wounds, almost before it was removed .

As a final note to my education I learned about check valves. Like the toilet valve the check valve doesnt work with low water pressure either. When we were having issues with city water at one point the water stopped working. We had pressure at the outside faucet but not into the RV. It wasn’t enough to push the check valve open. I was ready to change that valve too but as soon as the pressure returned we had water again. Who wuddu thunk pressure could affect these valves. It was a week of learning.

We replaced the Thetford on our 2013 about year 1 with the Domeitic after the pedal fell off. Our Redwood neighbour at the campsite here still has that POS toilet and it overflowed, he put in a shutoff valve to turn off the water before the toilet to prevent another overflow.
