I had the Euro Box Spring Slats under my bed, when going from a King to a Queen, I ditched the Euro Box Slats and put plywood, that gave me another inch of so of height.

Yep, when I replaced the mattress in my FL, I made sure I got a 9" thick mattress so it would fit under the opening where the drawers are.
