From experience I just look to see what the forecast is for the night... if they say the lows will be below 40º I put it on gas heat otherwise i leave it on HP.

According to the specs (https://www.rvcomfort.com/pdf_documents/8535d_data_sheet.pdf) the HP draws 15.4a/1675w.

These heat pumps are not the most efficient I've seen, we use ours when outside temps...
