The extension is held in place with a large band/hose clamp over the tabs & I added the piece of strap that bolts to the side & clamped also. You could add the clamp to your valve & not worry about...

Move the side tables out & put a king mattress in, you might have to get rid of the worthless euro box spring do dad & add 1/2" plywood, but should be a doable project.
