I also use an old awning hook wrapped in tape, but it takes me 4 or 5 tries to get it open and closing it isn't easy. I keep it closed except when we are using it to try and keep the stink bug...

Have not had any issues running the cook top. We always use the fan venting to the outside to keep moisture down and the heat down. We do need to come up with a good solution to open up the outside...
