I'm having a hard time picturing a 'P' trap that opens and closes? Every P-trap I ever worked on or looked at traps water in the U shaped section thus providing a water seal to prevent gas backing up...

Hi all.

We had that very problem on a TT we owned. Turned out to be Hydrogen Sulfide gas and a lack of a water seal in the traps. You might want to read this post.
