Yakima bike rack busts - not covered!
I purchased the Yakima FullTilt 4 ($400) in June '14 and placed it on the RV with 3 bikes.
Two days ago we drove East on I-10 to Bay St. Louis, MS. On the way, the Yakima rack broke off and the bikes were lost!
I called Yakima today and once they understood that the rack was on the RV they said they would not cover any loss. They said "None of the Yakima racks should be installed on a RV" - reason being that the suspension was so different from a vehicle.
I checked the docs that came w/ the rack and it does indeed say not to install on RV.

Sorry to hear that happened, but, Yes, most of them say that in the small print - why I returned mine !

WOW! That could be expensive. We just bought new bikes and they ended up being $1000.00 each which really surprised me.

Really sucks to loose your bikes! Sorry to hear of your loss! I'll have to do a more thorough inspection on our rack before each trip

Yes, that long overhand and the leverage and bounce and twisting EVERY bump...
I used about $200 worth of bungies on ours when we went from DFW to hilton head and back... and they STILL danced around according to those following us!

x2 I have the same rack only mine goes straight into the hitch. Has traveled with 2 bikes for more than 13k miles so far without any problems. Very easy to put bikes on and off too.

My Rhino brand rack also has the no RV disclaimer. This unit has the bike wheels in trays. I haven't traveled with it yet.
With my factory installed backup camera, I will be able to check how much the rack is swaying. I may have to add more tie downs.

Wow, Barton! So sorry to hear that happen to your bike rack and bikes! Even now, having to replace them all is going to be a tough job. We wish you luck!
We ended up purchasing one that is "Not RV approved", also; but the reviews were really quite great. Contacted the company to find out if they were okay for a RV and they said no. They were concerned about liability issues.

I have a 3 bike rack from Camping World that I believe is also a Swagman. We carry 2 bikes and are getting ready to make our 4th trip between Ohio and Florida. The rack has no pivot points and has a threaded pin that that tightens with a wrench. This keeps the rack from shaking back and forth in the hitch.

Sounds like a Swagman. We also have a hitch on the BMW 530 so that we can take the bikes with us on it also. Great rack. Had a friend with another 5er following me on a 300 mile run and told me afterwards he wanted info on the bike rack because of the way the bikes didn't move around.
No, I don't sell them. Just took a while to find which one worked the best.

We had this swagman,
but because of the overhang we had to add a hitch extender and locking hitch tightners to try to make it more stable...
even with that I had 20 bungies cords on it to dampen the bouncing

Bike Racks
We purchased the Swagman 3 bike rack at Camping World. We've had it almost three years and have not experienced any issues. Uses the threaded pin with safety clip.

I ordered the Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Non-Folding and should have it soon. Nice to see that it approves it for Motorhomes/RVs.

Have a Yakima for two bikes but it has a true 2 inch connector, not the smaii one. Have been hauling the bikes around for 2 years on the rig with no problems.

No, we didn't get your email until after we left for FL, so John took it apart and it rode in the basement of the RV. Does yours fare well on the hitch of the RW?
