I wouldn't pull any RW with anything less than a Dually. As for the hitch, many swear by the Anderson, I just have a very hard time buying the biggest heaviest Fifthwheel I can, then look to buy the lightest hitch I can, just doesn't make sense to me.
I have a Comfort Ride Hitch, heavy is putting it mildly, but I was looking at the Air Ride hitches, but just wanted something without airbags and Comfort Ride fit the bill.

I can agree with the hitch , I had a auto slide Demco in my short bed truck and now I have a hensley BD5 with air bags. I would guess that the comfort ride hitch is very close to the hensley , both are well built and have a good track record for being durable. Its my opinion that a air ride pin box or hitch with some type of spring is much nicer ride in the cab of the truck. as for the trailer I can see how it will help save some stress on the frame also.

The same man designed both the Hensley and the Comfort Ride. The Comfort Ride is the second generation when he decided to not do airbags. If you look at the hitches, they’re almost identical in hardware. Either one is a great hitch.

If you buy a New Horizons, they specify that if a cushioned hitch is not used, the warranty on coach structure is not applicable.

I have a 2020 RW 4001LK that I tow with a 2015 crew 4x4 Duramax Denali HD2500 that I installed air bags. We have put appx 5,000 miles with no problems. The rear kitchen and 8,000 lb axle does bounce things around in the kitchen. Looking at installing a Roadmaster shock kit to smooth out trailer ride. Anyone have any experience with this conversion, there are a lot of positive results on Roadmaster's web site

That is a SRW, right? I’m looking at F350, 6.7 with SRW and it rates out with capacity to pull the 2021 4001 LK. Lots of folks disagree.

It's not the Pulling, it's the carrying the Pin Weight, hitch, other cargo in the bed of the TV, and Passengers, both 2 legged and 4 legged.

You can "tow" a RW with a Toyota Tacoma (it towed the space shuttle or something stupid) or Ford Ranger, "carrying" that load is the issue.
Truck manufacturers keep upping the "max tow weights" but not the payloads accordingly.

Unless GM really increased their payloads & axle weights I'm guessing you're over at least one of them, regardless of what they quoted/published for a max tow weight. The pin weight on these RWs are pushing the limits on SRW 1 tons.
The air bags on the truck add no increase in payload, they are for leveling purposes only.
I've had 2 GMC Duramax/Allison trucks & will agree yours will move your RW down the highway with ease, but that's only 1/2 the equation, is it doing safely within the trucks limitations.

When you are sizing out your truck and trailer, if possible, check out some GVWR stickers on the trucks you are interested in. My truck payload (pin weight capacity) was stickered at 500 lbs below the sales propaganda #'s. Turns out marketing thinks even things like a spare tire (85 lbs) is considered optional equipment.

My new 2020 SRW has a big yellow sticker that shows 4562# as my available payload...

I was pretty impressed by the increase from my 2015 which was 3364#

Both GM and Ford have raised the GVW but they are still limited by the tires. Ford has had the largest rear axle rating for several years because they use 275/65/18 or 20" tires that have a rating over 3,800+ lbs each. The added ratings are partly due to the front axle rating, With towing a 5th wheel you only add about 50 to 100 lbs to the front wheels . That big 12,000lb rating only helps if your doing a slide in camper. Number are numbers and I do agree the ford has the best chance of being under max rear axle weight based on my trips to the scales with my 2016 GMC 3500 SRW truck.

Got it, the truck I’m looking at is 4x4 but standard bed vs long bed must make a lot of difference.
Thanks for comment.

Yes it is heavy. I need to look at different RV because I’m not buying a dully.
Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to the Redwood forum! It's great to see you're planning to upgrade to a 2021 SRW F350 Lariat for your new Redwood 3401RL. It sounds like you're doing your homework and considering all the important factors.

From the information you've provided, it's clear that you're concerned about payload capacity. Your analysis is spot on, and it's always a good idea to ensure that your truck can comfortably handle the pin weight of your RV, especially when considering cargo and additional options.

The option of a 6'9 bed with extra payload capacity is worth considering, especially if it aligns with your preferences for easier parking. It can provide some additional flexibility when it comes to carrying extra cargo in the bed.

You've received some valuable input from fellow forum members who have shared their experiences with SRW and DRW trucks. It's a topic that often sparks discussion, but ultimately, choosing the right truck for your RV depends on your specific needs and comfort level.

It's clear that you're taking your time to make an informed decision, and that's a great approach. The safety and stability of your towing setup are crucial, and it's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to payload capacity.

Congratulations on your retirement plans and the upcoming adventure with your Redwood 3401RL! If you have any more questions or need further advice, feel free to ask. The Redwood community is here to help, and there's a wealth of knowledge and experience to tap into.

Safe travels and enjoy your journey with Big Red!
