Towing vehicle question

Can a 2500 silverado HD Duramax with tow pkg pull a redwood 40kb? Anyone pull theirs with 3/4 ton trucks?

You can probably pull it , but I would guess you would be way over the gross weight for that pickup. Most of us have found that for safety and stability a dually 350/3500 from any of the 3 is a better way to go.

Pulling is not the problem as your 3/4 ton is the same engine/transmission as a 1 ton, but weight ratings are much lighter & you are trying to pull one of the biggest/heaviest of the RWs, you will be grossly overloaded.

Too much trailer for that truck. My 36RL ended up weighing 1722 lbs and a pin weight of 4300 lbs.

We have a SRW F350 with the max GVWR and are close to maximum trailer weight, gross combined weight and pin weight for the rear axle. For a F250 you will probably be significantly overloaded.

BTW - that's with no water, generator, W/D, etc so we stay as light as possible.

On some sites the 'weight police' would have been jumping all over this

But here we try to be reasonable, and as stated, you can 'pull' it,
but 'carrying' and stopping will be your concerns,
my 250 was not strong enough, my 350 SRW is just....

the only way the numbers will work is:

you check your ratings and weights very carefully every trip...
your 250/2500 is rated at the MAX GVWR and rear axle rating it can be...
you have some type of rear suspension leveling to limit the sag...
your rv doesn't have all the add on's like a front generator, washer/drier, dishwasher, etc...
you are very careful to pack properly, lightly, and not carry anything more than necessary...
and don't carry any water, sewer, etc...

good luck...

Could you pull it? Yes. Safely? No. I wouldn't consider that tow rig combo safe by any definition. Please don't be one of "those" guys. It jeopardizes you and your family's safety, as well as those other folks on the road.

My Ram D2500 has a tow rating of 17,000 and GCWR of 25,000. I am 500 lbs over on GCW and Rear Axle weight. Have added Kelderman air suspension on the rear. Stability would be much better with DRW. I will go back to 3500 DRW next truck.

Ron, your 2500 Ram is an exception in that the new (2013's and up) were redesigned and carry much higher ratings then their predecessor. I doubt that the 2500 Chevy comes close to your ratings. You are driving what I waited for and couldn't get when I needed it. I'm fairly certain that your 2500 is actually rated higher than my 2011 Ford F350 SRW.

Yes, all of the ratings on the 2014 D2500 4x4 are within a few lbs. of the 2011 Ram 3500 DRW I was pulling with. The exception is rear axle rating.

There is a difference between can you pull, and is it safe to pull. Check the tow rating on your truck and compare it to the gross vehicle weight of the Redwood. You may be able to pull a trailer, but that doesn't mean you can handle and stop it. Besides that, if you have the truck overloaded, it can make you responsible in an accident.

As I have posted on here before....I first pulled my trailer with a 2011 F350 SRW 4x4. Loved that truck but she had to go. Since I've had both SRW and dually with the same trailer....I can say there's no going back to the SRW

I have done both with an F350 on a comparable fiver in size (not QUITE as big) and now have the 3500 DRW... THERE IS NO COMPARISON. Maybe get your coach settled safely (empty!) somewhere, then go get a bigger truck ;-) I know, not great news. But the truth.

2014 Ram 2500 4x4 tires are 275/70R18 3640 lbs. @ 80 psi.
I am running 6900 - 7000 lbs on rear axle. Prox. 3900 lbs pin weight.
I am 400-500 lbs over rear axle capacity of 6500 lbs.
