Slider Required for ‘17 3901 and ‘20 F-350?

Just purchased a 2017 Redwood 3901MB. Now negotiating on 2020 F-350 shortbed (6.75’).

Anecdotally, some say I need a slider, and a local B&W installer says I don’t. Anyone with experience of this combination?

We have an 8' bed DRW now, but had a 2020 Chevy short bed (6.6) and would have gone with a slider. To be safe. Additional cost is very little compared to a smashed back window or front cap. Saying that, however, we have a B&W 25k hitch which has the option to reverse mount it and you pick up almost 3 inches. You do move the weight back off the axle by that 3 inches but could be enough to give you some safety margin. May be why the installer is saying you don't need one...

All I can add is that we have the same basic model only a '16 39MB the weight sticker leaving the Factory was just shy of 16K and loaded for Long Term travel we're pushing 19K, I wouldn't want to be pulling ours with anything less than a Long Bed Dually, then no need for a slider.

We pulled our Redwood with our 2015 F350 SRW short bed and it was fine with the super glide... IF you did not buy it yet, I would tell you to look into a long bed.... our 2020 long bed is NIGHT AND DAY better than the 2015 short bed....

like stated, if your planning on doing any extended towing, get the DRW and don't look back.... this is coming from a regular user of my SRW

I pull our 2015 RL-38 we are loaded with a fair amount of gear. Not loaded like many full timers. I am 600lbs over the rear axle rating of my 2016 GMC crew cab SRW. Yes it pull it but I dont like the stability of the 3500 SRW loaded that heavy. I have air bags heavy duty Fox shocks, 19.5" Michelin medium duty truck tires . Before the 2nd week of Sept 2020 I should have a new GMC crew cab DRW truck as my daily. I would suggest if anyone that reads this if your trailer is over 15,000lbs loaded and ready for camping you need a DRW truck , any one of the big 3 and newer then 2006. The 2020 trucks are much better then the the older trucks.

our trailer on the scales is 16,600lbs ready to roll.

We currently have a 2018 F350 SRW. We are not full timers and only go on short trips 250 miles or less. We run very light no water in tanks and not much cargo. I miss my 2008 F450 it was much more stable feeling in corners. I wanted a daily driver so I switched to the SRW now reconsidering the move and looking for a DRW.

Do you have a slider or fixed hitch? If fixed, how is the turning clearance? In other words, do I need a sliding hitch?

I am using a Demco auto slide. It slides about 14" back once you turn past 20* it starts to slide back and once your strait its all the way forward. The only sound it make is if the hitch more in the rails , I don't have the puck system in my current truck. I like the hitch and consider it to be good quality. I dont suggest useing a SRW truck for any redwood other then the Sl31 models. I am over weight on my rear axle of my crew cab 3500 GMC. If I dont have any water or extra fuel I am still 100 lbs over the rating on the side wall of the rear tires. DRW for me next month.....
