I bet its pretty easy to install a hard wired unit on the back fiberglass cap. Obviously wireless would be easier but wonder if you'd have signal problems due to the length.

For the Ford truck guys, if you use a hardwired one you could easily tie it into your factory Nav and have the backup camera right in your dash. There's a device out there that lets you tie in multiple backup camera's and keep them on while travelling forward if you'd like. It also allows you to enter routes while in motion.

for the long, LONG trailers, run the wireless sending unit up to the front of the rv so it's closet to the receiver...
I opted for the ford harness to tie it into the existing tailgate camera connection when hooked up since the tailgate one is useless when towing the 5er...
part # DC3Z-14A412-A - about $10 @ your dealer.

I installed a wired unit on my previous rig. It was fairly simple to fish the wires in the rear fiberglass cap and route up to the front. On my 39MB Redwood, I went with a wireless system, Jensen Voyager. It works fairly well but I do occasionally lose the signal when traveling down the road. It's not too much of a concern to me because my main use is when I'm backing up into a site, etc and for that purpose it works great. This is the system I use:

And...this is the system I installed on my Montana (previous rig) As I said, the install wasn't bad at all. Also, like LWG said, Ford guys can buy the lockpick device which allows you to use your Navigation system as the monitor, eliminating need for the separate camera system monitor.

I just ordered mine from rvcams. Wired system. I have the lockpick, so I went wired with the quick release connection. Only thing I need to do is figure out where to mount the camera. Talk to Tim Lazaroe, he will work with you and is a honest guy.

trfield, johnboytoo,
Have either of you installed Lockpick with a different backup camera? I have no firsthand knowledge of how well this product works other than reading other reviews. I must admit it would be nice to at least have access to a backup camera on the RW while driving down the Interstate.

I installed the Jensen Voyager wireless system on our '12 36RL. Works well. I wired it to the center clearance light on the top of the rear cap. When running lights are turned on for the truck it will power up. Mostly use it for backing up as we don't tow anything behind our RW. It also has a microphone so I can hear the DW behind the coach telling me what to do. Microphone is also pretty sensitive as I have heard leaves and twigs breaking as she is walking back there. She can't hear me except from the truck cab but I hear her just fine. Video signal is fine too at this distance using the supplied antenna attached to camera. My Ford F250 is 19 ft 1 in long. Just plug screen into power outlet or cig lighter and pic is there.

I haven't but my brother did on his 2011 F-350. I would have to say that I'm not sure how I feel because the first one he received didn't work and then they sent him a new unit which did work. He only had the truck for about 1 month after that so not a lot of time to play with it. Problem is, I've also read tons of reviews with MANY being unfavorable. Lots of failures and then most people complain about the way you have to access certain features by pressing buttons on the steering wheel and you have a limited amount of time before option "times out"??????

Hmm - I'm not sure I want to hear my wife's grumbles - what I do hear is bad enough

Did you put the extension cable on that brings the antenna to the front of the 5er? Or are you transmitting from the back?

Been looking at this wireless system. They claim, " we guarantee no interference up to 70ft" I would basically use it for backing up and heavy traffic.

Our RW36FB being built will have the Furrion wireless camera option installed at the factory.

One Furrion document gives the range as 100 meters. Another Furrion document states 100 feet.

We are picking up the unit in three weeks, so we'll let you know if if feet or meters.

Anyone successfully patched into GMC nav?
I was thinking of relocating the factory tailgate handle camera to RW clearance light area but haven't tried a wire that long.

Now that is a very smart and interesting thought. Save on the dashboard clutter and use a screen you already have. A lot neater.
I would want to keep the camera on the tail gate, and just run another camera to the back of the 5th wheel. I wonder how well the same type of camera that is in the tail gate would work on the 5th wheel. I like how small it is; just a thought.

Finally got the backup camera installed. Came out looking factory. Took about 5 hours to run the wires. Came across the top of the cap, down the side of the cap and along the frame rails. Pulled the wires through the front cap from the propane tank cabinet and dropped the wires into the hitch. Hooked up a hitch cam and the backup camera to my truck using the Lockpick. Like the way it turned out.
