Pin box adjustment

Have Lippert 1621 pin box. I need a little more bed rail clearance. Hitch is raised to the maximum. Was wondering if I can lower my pin box 1 hole space to raise RV slightly? The way it looks I'd lose 2 bolts in the mounting so total of 8 would be securing the pin box. Is it OK to do that? Lippert website has no information about this. At least I couldn't find anything.

I have seen only 8 being used.

I just double checked and I've got 5 bolts on each side of the pin box for a total of 10.
I would think 8 would be enough but want to be sure. I'd like to put it down as low as possible so I could lower the hitch a little.

You might want to ask Redwood direct at the factory (not the Dealer). Lippert is short on answers for most things.

Another alternative might to be get an enhanced pin box. My Triglide is so tall I actually have the hitch all the way down in the truck.

Does anyone have a name and contact number for Redwood. Id like to call then this morning and see if they can help me out. Id rather not have to buy an updated pin box if I don't have to right now. Looking at it again this morning I don't really see why I couldn't lower it one set of hole and use 8 bolts instead of 10. Just wanna be sure.

Have you checked your pin box to see if there are unused holes higher up? I can't look at the old one, but the Flexair can be lowered and still have 10 bolts. Mine is mounted all the way up. And I still lowered my hitch. I seen more than a few with 8.

I'm going to look closer. I think it is mounted all of the way up. I spoke with RW customer service and they said if the pin box is using 10 bolts and I lowered I would still need to use all 10 bolts. They did not I couldn't lower it but but did not support the use of less than 10 bolts. CYA on their part which I understand.
Lippert was less than helpful but they just build the hitch, they don't install it.

If I cant get the adjustment from the pin box Ill be looking for a new air ride pin box I guess.

How much clearance do you have? With my truck and a Pullrite hitch, I was good and was still 1 hole down on the hitch.

About 3 inches between the rails. Running a Husky 26k non slider. Centered on the uprights and head is raised to the max setting. Right at 19" to the surface of the plate.

Wow, that's not much. That must be at the back of the bed I hope. My hitch is 16.5'' level from the floor. Your 4x4 Dodge is pretty tall.

It is at the lowest point at the tailgate. Truck is stock height, no lift kit or big tires. I really think the pin box is to far up. When I get home I'm going to really look to see if it will come down more.

ya I would be nervous with only 3 inches. Mine is closer to 8 or more.

Me too. How do your like your air ride system? Ive been looking at some online and lippert has 3 choices I like.
What model hitch is yours?
Lippert makes one without cushioned pin and one with cushioned pin. Small difference in price bot are 18000# capacity.

This is the hitch I am looking at. It seems to have the best of all worlds. It would get me up off the rails and have a much better ride.

I love my Trailair Tri-glide (bought out by Lippert). My trailer just floats back there, but it has been discontinued. The one you are looking at is the replacement. Same basic design, but a different style base plate that uses rubber (a little like the Mor-Ryde) rather than the pendulum style like mine has.

Should be a great pin box - there are some other's on here that have that one already.

The FlexAir is the newest version & I would very much like to replace the lower jaw on mine with that version, hopefully at this year's rally they offer something to be able to convert them.

CW here in SLC has one on display. I think I'll go and take a look at it.

I really didn't have any concerns with just the Roto flex. I just thought the Flexair would be easier on the trailer over the long haul. I does help on the bridges and dips.

My clearance is fine but I too, have the hitch as high as it will go in my 2011 F350 srw longbed. Kind of makes it impossible to put a bed cover on my tow vehicle with the hitch so high. I would love to drop the Trail air pin box one hole but I would also be down to 8 bolts. After working on slide adjustments and seeing that only 2 bolts hold the entire Kitchen slide to the rams, makes me question why 8 bolts would not be enough.
