all of mine are metal. So were the factory ones.

The only problem is they bend.

That's my problem as well. Need to replace 3 of them at this point. Might pull one and go to Lowe's or HD and get replacement ones that I can control the airflow with. It'd be nice to be able to sleep in the bedroom with the heater on and not be sweating while the living room is 20* cooler...

ya they really help. The one in the living room catches heck because my daughter jumps off the couch accessing the upper cupboards, and always lands on that vent and even my new Home Depot one is bent now.

Got mine at HD also. I also put screen on underside of the ones in LR cause my little granddaughter liked dropping m & ms into them, but she's so cute.
