The overhang on the back just means watching when you make your turns. I am used to that from hauling power poles during my career that swing out into the next lane while turning.
As far as the hitch goes it can be reinforced to haul 1000 lbs if need be
1000 pounds is a lot of weight. Would doing this void the warranty? Also, I have read that adding a lot of weight to the rear of a 5th wheel could bend the frame to the point the slides may not work.

FWIW............the receiver on the Redwoods is rated for max. 300 lbs tongue weight and 3000 lbs max. trailer weight by Redwood and Lippert.

Oh I'm sure you didn't put the axles in the middle on your power poles

As far as the Lippert warranty through Redwood, pretty much any mod you make to the hitch will void the warranty if they can claim the issue was a direct result of your mod. However, the installer may assume the warranty for any issues caused by his work - something to check out.

The electric lift bike haulers on the back are awesome, and I believe if they agree to install it on your rig, they warranty the design and install. The only problem with those is your bike gets pretty dirty by the time you arrive.

Don't need a toy hauler to get the patio any more - this one comes out the side off the kitchen with a patio door And you thought it was hard to find the ideal campsite for a rear kitchen!

All our trailers for hauling poles have a 15 to 20' of pole overhang which does swing into the lane beside you when turning onto a side road etc We use a pilot vehicle behind to block the lane

Also the utilities have exemptions for this. We haul 90' poles behind a 35' tow vehicle

So my point was with the swivel wheel or tote you can have a 15-20' overhang or more to the Redwood axle depending on how long of a Tote you install..... and no pilot vehicle.

They look like they would be a pain in the butt to maneuver through a parking lot or pump island or even in town. I wound rather tow a trailer if it were me.

I agree with AA on this. I seriously looked at those swivel trailers but wasn't too sure about the extra overhang. When pulling doubles the rear trailer tracks on the inside of the turn.

On Semi trucks when pulling doubles, the rear trailer tracks equal with the tractor but this is because of the "dolly" in between the trailers. I don't think it would be the same behind the Redwood.

The advantage of the swivel trailer is that you can back them up while on doubles, it's out of the question for any distance.

I like this site because it also tells me which states have reciprocity with my home state of MI.

How much weight can you put on the receiver of the RV? We looked at lifts for a 600 lb. bike and the lift weighed more than the bike. We were told it could make the RV sway from an imbalance of weight front to back. I want my bike with me!

The disclaimer sticker on the boat /2 " hitch states 300 lb tongue and 3,ooo pull. And any modifications to hitch or frame can and probably will void your warranty.

I recently asked someone about those Bike Lifts and was told they were not recommended for 5th wheels. Sounds like you're talking 1200 to 1500 for Bike and lift and I don't think I would want that much additional weight hanging off the back.

I have never seen a lift used on a fifth wheel but I would never consider it due to the weight directly on the back! A trailer, swivel wheel or Ohio Tote would be the only way!

Rick,

I've seen quite a few and I'm always fascinated watching them load and unload.

This company specializes in it and can tell if they they can or can't on a Redwood. I have no idea what the criteria is. I think I saw an Excel with one on a Dealers lot not too long ago.

Wow! I have never seen that on a fifth wheel. I have seen that on many Motorhomes. I will check it out with great reservation!

It could be they only work on the box frames like that Carriage - I don't know. The Excel I saw with one was a monster with dual rear wheels on each of the two axles. Beautiful coach if it hadn't of been so dated when we looked.

38GK with Idaho Tote

I purchased an Idaho Tote in June of last year to pull behind my 38GK. I have my Harley Classic aboard using a side mount Loadall ramp. Total length with my 2013 F 350 crew cab is 65 feet. It pulls like a dream! Check out www.idahotote.com. And www.loadall.com or email me for more info. I have had toy haulers before, but this is the way to go. Because of how the Harley is positioned, the tongue weight does not exceed 300 lbs. Note my profile picture.
