Battery Issue?

2 months ago I was dropping the coach off to a dealer for the day and the fronts jacks would not extend. Just a rapid electrical clicking. They brought out a jumper and I was able to extend the jacks. The dealer checked and said the batteries were fine.
Now this is popping up again. Jacks periodically will not extend or retract. Not all the time. When I hook up the truck 7 pin and let the truck charge for 20 min or so, I can extend & retract.
Looking at Group 31 Deep Cycle AGM batteries but unsure that I need a high quality battery as I never boondock.

What do you think?

I just replaced my OEM group 27 batteries after 5 years of fulltime use with 2 more group 27 Duracells from Sams Club. Other than having to check the water a couple times a year I have no complaints with the wet cell batteries. We also don't boondock or even Wal-Mart camp, DW has 3 minimum requirements, water, sewer hook up, & 50 amp power, we're not camping we're living.

Ya I only ever had 27s (2) and never had a problem. I don't think spending $270 a piece for 31 AGMs will do anything for you other than complicating installation because they are too big for the battery boxes.

Ron:
There is a thermal auto reset breaker going to the pump that will trip and then reset. I had it replaced at the rally and it works fine now. My batteries were good too, but the combination of the load and the overly sensitive breaker is what was causing the intermittent problem.

I had to replace this breaker as well. I've had group 27, maintenance free, Interstate batteries since the summer of 13. They are wet cell, but should never need water, and haven't.

Brad,

This past spring, I replaced my 2 BAD group 27 ( stock ) batteries with 2 of the Lifeline Group 31 AGM’s . . They BOTH fit into the stock bat boxes... I just had to re-do 2 of the wires..

Oh cool! I stand corrected and am wondering now if I was thinking of my Montana.

I think my next batteries will be the grp 31 AGMs that Sam's Club sells for under $200. My back hates me adding water to the grp 27 wet cells!

Hello Ron.
I replaced my single group 27 battery that the dealer installed cause it was not enough Ah as required by the inverter. Got 2 6V (flooded) from Sams and now I have 20% safety margin. I was planning on adding 2 more one day when I need to replace these 2 6V to keep all mfg. dates the same. We do not dry camp either (the wife is a 50 amp kind of girl) but just wanted to be prepared for whatever is thrown our way.
I have heard of that breaker/thermal fuse causing problems in the past, might replace it 1st.
Good luck and safe travels!!

All:
Sam's Club is having a sale on Group 31 AGMs. $25 off the $179 regular price.

Replacing batteries

OK. I have brought home my 2 Group 31 AGMs from Sam's Club. Once I get the 2 old wet cell grp 27s I can get my $36.00 core charge back.
Now all I have to do is get the old ones out and the new ones in! I am sure some of you pro's have run into this before me, so let me pick your brains...
1. Is there any reason to keep the battery boxes with AGMs? I think getting the AGMs installed will be much easier without them.
2. Lifting the rear battery in place looks like it will not be easy. A 2 man lift would be a good way to go, but I doubt if 2 can get in there. I'm a pretty big guy, but these are damn heavy.
3. I figure I will max out the front jacks to get as much room as possible. Is there a good way to elevate the front a few feet?
I'll check back later to get info on a good chiropractor!
Thanks in advance.

I replaced my 2 stock batteries this past summer with Lifeline AGM’s. The stock batteries were nestled nicely in the boxes, i removed ALL wires, and measured for new.
I removed the stock batts myself and placed the 75# replacement batteries into the boxes for a nice fit.. THAT WAS A JOB lifting the 2 into there. !!

I replaced 2 of the stock wires to allow the box lids to fit snug.

There is no easy way to do it , unless you have a forklift handy..

Thanks... I'll check my garage for my forklift. I think it is under the 4 16" wheels left over from my 17.5" upgrades.

Your in business !

All kidding aside, if you know a local shop thay does have a lift, it would be worth it..

I have 5 forklifts at the office, i decided not to hook up, drag the RW the 25 mins to use a lift... i opted to just manhandle them... NOT NEXT TIME.. I will drag it to the forklifts with a doubt!

Now would be a really great time to put a battery tray in .......
When this set gets replaced there will be a MorRyde tray installed at the same time. Just sayin'

If their are not handles, channel locks on each post, or even vice grips, can help you hoist them out of there by hand.

Both work well, strap needs a bit more headroom.
