Aux Fuel Tank

While the RW is in the shop, I am going to increase the fuel capacity of the truck. Transfer Flow has an OEM Replacement that adds another 24 gallons or one in the bed that adds 60 plus keeps your original tank.

This is my stupid question and I cant test it myself because the RV is at the shop. Will a toolbox/gas tank combo that extends a couple inches above the rails cause a clearance problem for the Redwood?

Any recommended solutions?

Thanks,

I have the 60 gallon version by RDS that sits even with the top of my bed. I have it connected to my factory tank with their adapter kit. I think it's a great investment, especially on long trips. You can get different sizes as far as capacity and dimensions depending on how much bed space you are willing to give up.

With this setup, and a good price at that, do you have to stop to transfer fuel?

No. I have it setup as gravity fed with the install kit made by RDS as well.

RDS Diesel Install Kit for Auxiliary Diesel Fuel Tank — Fits 1999–Current Ford, 2011–Current Chevrolet and GMC, and Dodge 1999–2012, Model# 011025 | Fuel Tank Accessories| Northern Tool + Equipment

There is a valve in the adapter that will shut the fuel off once the factory tank is full. That way if someone opens the fuel cap on your truck you don't have to worry about it overflowing.

I installed a 65 gallon Titan tank in place of the stock fuel tank. It gives me 700 mile range when towing. Also have full use of my bed

With my 2012 Ford F360 dually, I have Transfer Flow (https://www.transferflow.com/shop/pr...?p=1&c=10&s=p-) with auto pump and it fits w/in the bed and under my Roll And Lock (Roll-N-Lock M-Series | M-Series Tonneau Cover). My 5th wheel hitch, with the plate removed, also fits under the R&L which makes it nice when disconnected, to have everything secured.

Nice setup. Is that the 37 gal tank?

Scott,
I have the transfer flow, 50 gallon, under the rail, in bed with a truxedo Duce cover. This gives me 87.5 gallons of fuel. Fuel is pumped from the auxiliary tank using their Trax3 system. It keeps the fuel at constant levels in both tanks, until you get to a certain level, then it drains the auxiliary tank first, leaving the balance in the main.

Ah nice! I didn't realize that one would fit under the Roll-n-lock. Their info kind of leads you to the 37 gal.

We have a 45 gallon ATTA Freedom Fill system.
Freedom Fill Auxiliary System

Works great, turn on the switch and forget about it until the aux tank is empty. Turn it off until you refill the tank.

Thanks everyone. I think I found the combination that will work for me.

52 Gallon Roll-Top Bed Cover Toolbox Combo

Roll-N-Lock M-Series | M-Series Tonneau Cover

This will give me nearly 90 gallons + tool box and it works with rolling cover.

From some of the responses I'm thinking I don't get quite the same gas mileage. I haven't actually calculated it but if I were to guess, based off the computer, it is 8 or 9 when I am pulling the RW.

As a Newbie, this should solve the biggest problems I have had so far, trying to find gas where I shouldn't.

I've had the 60 gal Titan GMC replacement tank for 3 years now. Replaces OEM and hardly noticable. I reworked my in-bed tool box to be removable & have the Reese removable hitch. Comes in handy around the house because we only use the truck for vacationing.

Believe me... Being able to drive with a 650+ range trumps any slight reduction in mileage. Last year, drove from CT to OH border with fuel to spare.

Every bad situation I have gotten into so far has been fuel related. The stress of seeing about 30 miles left before no gas and there was no was to get into the last gas station I saw. With nearly 90 gallons, I suspect I will rarely need to pull in and get fuel with the RW.

Adding 400 lbs of fuel - nearly undetectable in MPG. Adding 17,222 lbs to the ass end of this thing, slight detection in MPG

650 miles that's 3 days of traveling for us, 250-300 miles per day is about our limit. Don't need the extra fuel or weight.
