38GK Pin Wt

Can anyone tell me what their pin wt is on a 38GK? The brochure says 2594 but that seems extremely low for a vehicle of this weight. I don’t think it will matter what the year is.

Trying to determine if we have any issues with the ratings of our truck because it is an older model.

Thanks, Chris

Fairly certain most RWs pin weight is 3k+.
To be on the safe side figure 25% of the GVWR posted on your RW, this would give the max you should have.
16.5k x 25% = 4125lbs

my 2016 38RL was 3,260#...

My 2020 391RD has a pin weight at 3,680#

*** BUT ***

we pack real light as we are only weekend warriors. We have more empty storage than full

If your "older model" truck is a 3/4 ton you don't have enough payload for any of the RW line.
IIRC mine was 3800+/- loaded to the 16.5k fulltiming, sorry don't have the numbers anymore.

Even running light our 38RL was at 3200lbs pin wgt. I pulled it with a 2008 F450 and a 2018 SRW F350. I knew that I was pushing the limit of the SRW but since I was only doing short weekend trips I ran with it. Did not take long for me to realize how much I missed the DRW's. We made the decision to either get a new DRW this year or go to Motorhome. Motorhome won out.

Our friends have the 38GK and they run very close to the 3200lbs as well.

You should be good. I pulled our 38RL with no issues for 4 years with the 2008 F450. I did have many upgrades on the F450.

Our 50 gal auxiliary tank filled could end up pushing us over. If pin wt is at low to mid 3k's we should be good.

or RL38 has a slide in a slide as does most RW's we have a washer drier and the basement is fairly full and no generator . with 100 gallons of freshwater my pin weight is 3500lbs the MB from the factory was listed as heavier then the RL. I no longer pull our RL with a single wheel truck , I was 400~800lbs over the rear axle rating of 7050lbs on my crew cab (depending on how much fresh water I had in the tank). I now have a GMC crew DRW that is my daily driver. I know other do pull there trailer for many year with single wheel truck but after all the upgrades mine just didn't feel as sure footed as a DRW truck stock. it can be done but I would suggest you think long and hard about a truck that has over 5000lbs of payload. .02c

This is where I think we stand

2008 F450
GVWR 14.5k
Curb Wt 9k CAT scaled (no people, only about 10 gal fuel + 5th wheel hitch)
Payload 14.5k-9k =5.5k

I do not think the payload is listed this high on the door sticker. Will check this weekend when truck is home.

Payload
5500 lbs - 616 fuel (38 gal + 50 gal aux) - 100 lb tank - 236 lbs dogs (might be less ) - 550 lbs people = 4000 pin wt etc.

Front axle rating 7k
Rear axle rating 11k

Your fine , most owner ask these questions when they want to to a Redwood with a 3/4 ton truck rated at 9,900 lbs.....

Its unlikely you will have a pin weight over 3800lbs but still possible.

It looks like we can squeak through.

The door sticker has a payload of 5241 lbs. Hubby filled up both tanks. With fuel, wt of steel aux tank, 5th wheel hitch, tool box, approx. 100lbs of sand inside the tool box and his body weight the total was 10,240. We could take the sand and even the tool box out if need be, but I think we will be okay. We will be pushing things towards the max, especially the GCVWR as I anticipate the RV would end up over 16.5K.

What's strange is that the axle max's are lower than what I found in the 2008 brochure. The sticker says 6.5K front and 9.5K rear. 1.5K less than the brochure on the rear.

Thanks for everyone's input. Chris

Thanks. We will need to carefully spread the load in the trailer.

FTG ,I have my scale tickets, I am a retired truck driver, owner operator and have used scales hundreds of times. I have installed a air scale gauge on my pin box and it is with in 40 pls of my scale ticket. I pull my trailer at a level position front to back. my pin weight % is 16.25 of 14,630. this is empty weight PW =2,377. the factory sticker in the cabinet had the pin weight at 2,372. so RW was off at all.

Interesting, we have a '16 39MB and have a pin weight of approx 3500 Lbs (don't have the weight ticket, buried in the file cabinet). But then again, I know we're heavy being will over 18K Lbs. Our unit shipped from the Factory just a few pounds under 16K totally empty.

ET,

I believe you... It's just weird hearing of Redwood Pin weights UNDER the 3k mark.... And I thought I was running light at 3260!
