2012 Ford F450 6.7

I just took my truck in with a check engine light on at 39,000 miles, it ended up being the EGR cooler, even though I was out of warranty they changed it for free, seams like Dodge has the same issue, I do little idling and really keep my RPMs up especially on tow mode. Has anyone else had this issue?

That EGR cooler had been a problem for Ford since the 6.0's. On the 6.0's it was a poor design and usually resulted in the oil cooler needing replacing as well. I have 53k miles on my Cummins with no issues. Glad they made it right for you!

They said it might do it again but they will change it for life free, obviously a flaw they can't fix yet, part changers.

Thanks

They must have relocated it when Ford designed the new 6.7. On the 6.0 it and the oil cooler were located under the intake manifold. Very bad design on those years and you were better off removing both. They would not be replacing them for free if they were still that difficult to get too.

Buddy...gotta' say, from my experience that's a rare failure in the 6.7L. The 6.0 and the 6.7 oil coolers are absolutely nothing like the other.

Robinson Brothers said they have had many of them. The 6.7 is easier to change than the 6.0 and others. I have never not used the Ford Cetane and Performance additive since buying my F450.

Ah Robinson Brothers - they still open ?
bought cars from them a LONG time ago

Good that they got you going again!
39k miles is early it seems...

When I had my 6.7's in the 250 and 350 I spent LOT's of time on Ford Truck Enthusiast and don't recall anyone reporting an issue - but mine only had 50K and 60k miles when I traded out of them last year.

Start by not adding all that junk to it and stick with fuel. Never added anything to any of my vehicles, and haven't had any fuel or EGR issues yet.

Thanks, I only use Chevron or Exxon as it is. Shell gave me way less mpg.
