Wind '!

Need opinions please, especially from you westerners that have experienced them. We are currently in a campground up on a ridge looking over Pierre, SD. Beautiful spot but exposed. Forecast for tonight calls for blizzard conditions and winds of +50 mph. How do you honestly think the coach will be ? We have time to leave and go to another campground if we go in the next couple hours.

Thanks for any opinions and experience.

I can say it won't be fun! We were just west of Amarillo 2-3 years ago in May, sustained winds 40+/- day/night with 60-70 mph gusts & 7-8 days that we couldn't we our sons house 20' away due to the dust. Most days we pulled in the slides & left for the day. If your nose/tail to the wind, like the sailor in you would do, you should be fine, if broadside MOVE. Don't remember if you have slide toppers, but if so you'll definitely want the slides in & with them out they will breath in/out which looks/feels eery.
Good luck, let us know how you make out!

Blizzard conditions, 50+ mph winds.... I think you answered your own question. That is why these things have wheels under them, to roll down the road...

If you stayed, Good Luck !

Once work up by the wind and the cat around 3 am in Alsatian RV Resort & Golf Club in Castroville Tx outside San Antonio, great RV park, but very scary night, don't ever want to repeat that, winds were very strong 40 or better with gusts and unexpected. Be safe Vaughn.

Well - we stayed in place. Not really any other good places to go. So far, so good. Talked to Brad and took his advice from many years in Colorado. Have the rear stabilizers down, all of the levelers down solidly and also hooked up to the truck. We're able to take the wind almost head-on and so far very little rocking in the coach. Wind is currently 35-45 gusting to 50-55 and snow going sideways Visibility about 100'. Guess this is a normal South Dakota spring !! Lol

We're good, should be fine. But entertaining getting down the ridge come Tuesday or so.

Glad you came out OK Vaughan! Our Redwood always did pretty well, and I suppose any in that size and weight.

Winds that shred toppers, destroy tents, and knock over 5ers parked in the sand. Not even the local dealer was safe couple of years ago:

I'm in Rockport TX, permanent position with no additional blocking beyond two little screw jacks under the hitch bar on the back end. I slept through 50 mph a couple of nights ago.

I vacated for Harvey and moved the RW inland. It survived 70 in a little place called Goliad TX but I was not onboard for that.

You can find my weather machine on Weather Underground zip 78382 "Palm Harbor Fish Camp"
