Stolen Exhaust

Steve is on the road heading back from the RW factory from dropping of our unit for repairs this weekend. He's staying over in Indiana for a show he's attending. He has a collecting hobby and belong to Beer Can Collectors of America they had a show that coincided with his trip to Redwood. He called me this morning as he was suppose to be heading home around 4 a.m. he said he started my truck and something was wrong. He restarted it a couple times and it came over as reduced power. He went in to see who he could contact. Our Coachnet of course said since he didn't have the 5th wheel with him my truck wasn't covered?? whatever...
He decided to go check out the truck one more time and looked underneath, the whole freaking exhaust was gone who the hell does something like that I'm numb about it and Steve is stuck at a hotel a long way from home he met a guy at the show who has a lot of clout with Ford so he made some calls and they came and picked up the truck. Now they have to look it over and see what can be done if they can't find one it's got to be ordered and that will be at least Tuesday to get it there. He's far from home has jobs scheduled to start and some stupid bleep ,bleep bleep touched my beautiful truck
the cops said its common in the city but not where he's staying they steal them for scrap

The exhaust on the trucks are stolen and sold because of the converters. They have precious metal in them and it's my understanding that they pay several hundred dollars each.

The tailgates are stolen a lot in some areas too

That's just great they get a couple hundred stupid dollars and were out thousands and thousands in repairs, missed work and stuck 100's of miles from home... Someone can just steal something you work so hard to get what a sad world we live in. The tailgate was locked thank goodness. they didn't touch my brand new tires or the new rv gps

So sorry that happened! That just sucks. I had heard of gas cats being stolen for the precious metals, but not the diesel cats. Maybe the SS exhaust pipe is worth something too.

I guess its just Russian Roulette anymore with the scrap nabs. I imagine the law enforcement focus should be on the companies that accept scrap, but they are typically scale tipping criminals themselves.

That's going on all over the country, those guys can have the converter or entire exhaust off & gone in just a couple of minutes with a sawzall or two. Just read the news in the Texas panhandle near where our daughter is warning people to garage your vehicles if you can, thieves got about 10 cars on one block one night.

I sold 2 cracked aluminum wheels off a previous SOB & had to show the registration for my truck & trailer & sign an affidavit stating the property belonged to me.

The insurance should cover the replacement. More than likely the thieves didn't go through the hassle of unplugging the O2 censors so they'll have to be purchased and the wires repaired as well. Altogether you're probably looking at $2500-$3000.

Depending on the emission laws where you live.......now is the time to replace the exhaust with aftermarket exhaust and get a tuner. It will end up costing around $3500 but you won't have to worry about people stealing the exhaust again.

Please post the city or area this happened. I was thinking Indiana was a pretty safe state. Most crimes like this are committed by locals. We can be aware if in or near this location. Houston is an area where they steal the whole truck and have it chopped in a couple of hours. It happened to two of my brothers on different occasions. And two of my friends had their trucks stolen while in Houston.

Sorry Char and Steve! It's so frustrating to work so hard to achieve things, and then have some low life's steal it from you. Sincerely hope your insurance covers your loss.

I just got off the phone with Steve. The ford dealer is in Fisher Indiana he's about an hour from there. A guy told him they usually go for the diesels bigger money for scrap. the tow truck guy told him eleven other gas fords were hit in the past few days ..He's stuck there maybe up to Wednesday and then has to drive 16 hours home He said thanks for all the kind words it's nice to know everyone cares. The insurance company so far has been great. And the hotel is putting him up free of charge and they have a restaurant.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. In the old days you could just wire up a Chunk of stove pipe and run with no muffler to get you home. Nowadays with all the sensors and the computer they won't run

Yes Brad they offered the rental, he's staying put he says he's in the middle of the city.

Thanks for the offer on the hotel hopefully it'll be no problems there. He told me he was never ever taking my truck to a show again. I'm still having trouble wrapping my brain around someone doing this to my truck..some slime ball touching my truck and now it's sitting in a lot almost 900 miles away from home

A couple years before I retired we had a meeting in San Antonio & a co worker was leaving from there on a hunting trip, had a couple 4 wheelers on a trailer with coolers & camping stuff & everyone's guns in the back seat, came out of the meeting & it's all gone, never recovered any of it.
