Tom,

With our mattress we have to ensure it is completely level or it doesn't slide into the cupboards. I figure if I extend the frame it would raise the mattress an equal amount, which would then be restricted from sliding into the cupboards.

Haven't seen the tolerances on other 36FL's, but our mattress has almost zero in the current configuration.
