Big Bend National Park

Thinking about going to Big Bend National Park area next January. Has anyone stayed there and have any good suggestions for campsite?

We were there back in 2010. I recall that the campsites within the park are generally not serviced so we stayed at a nearby full service campground outside the park and toured with our tow vehicle, sorry, don't remember the campsite name. We were there around Martin L King's celebration day, they offered free entry so it was busy as well.

You can't take your dog on the trails there, a bit disappointing as we didn't want to leave him in the truck while we did some trails.

I was there in 2015, there is only one campground in the park with sites big enough for a RW. That is the Rio Grand Village campground. We stayed in Study Butte. There are a couple more campgrounds between Terlingua and Lajitas. If you know your dates I would make a reservation if plan to stay in park as it was full the whole time we where there

Thanks almcc and Andrew! Looks like the National or State park might not work, I’ll just have to go with one of the private campgrounds nearby.

I looked at our blog and found the RV park we stayed at, it was the Stillwell RV park, the link is below. It was close to the park.

We’ve stayed at Maverick Ranch a couple years ago. Was a very nice RV Park and located between The National Park and the State Park. We enjoyed our stay and I’d like to make a return trip there in the future. One thing to note.... the area is relatively remote so stock up before you go. Fuel is available but no decently sized grocery outlets nearby.

Highly recommend going...

we stayed at Rio Grand Village campground last Nov. for Thanksgiving it's a small older park but the location is wonderful due to it is ~60 miles from the gate coming out of Marathon. They had a small store and gas and diesel available.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. Hopefully one of these parks will have some availability as I have to wait until the last minute (so to speak) depending on weather conditions.

Did you ever make it down to the Big Bend National Park?
