Baton Rouge area RV Parks

Ok, all you South Louisiana folks, my brother is coming to this area first week in December and we are looking for a great RV park located around Baton Rouge that we can stay at and use as a home base to experience the area. If you have any suggestions on where we might find a nice RV/Campground, we are open for suggestions. We will probably spend 4-7 nights at the location. He has a 39' fifth wheel and mine is the 31SL (36") and we want to be able to get into a place easily and not worry about low trees or small sites. I will travel I-49 down to that area and he will be coming down on 55 and then on I-10.

RV Resort near Baton Rouge

On the web and found this to be an interesting place to stay near Baton Rouge. Go to the site titled Poche Plantation RV Resort in Convent La. Janis and I will be making a reservation in the near future. There are many restaurants in the area and plenty of history to explore. Read some of the reviews, sure looks good. Has anyone on this forum been to this park?

I also found that one on the web and am considering it. It would be great if we could find someone on here who has been there. They only show you on the web what they want you to see.

Closer to Lafayette is http://www.cajunpalms.com/

More of a destination park with funny people watching opportunities...
Those Cajuns know how to build their golf carts !!!

We have family there and can ask around more if you'd like... but the times we've come in we stayed at lakeside or met them at http://www.crt.state.la.us/louisiana...de-state-park/

Looks like a nice place but their website makes some of the sites look like they are on top of each other. I don't like the idea of my neighbors awning touching my slideout. Are they really close or are the pictures deceiving?

Thanks John. We are still looking but we know we have to make a decision soon since we are already into Nov. Lakeside looked great except maybe everyone is on top of each other.

That's why we got the last site on the circle
but our friends were next to us, so no biggee !...

and they were in a motorhome, so they parked windshield in so it was a view of the lake and our awnings shared our 'party space' !

And, don't know if you noticed, most are double wide sites...

Hope this helps...
You might look a bit closer at google maps/earth to see better like so

I was afraid of that, they look very close even if they are double wide. Right now we are swaying towards the "Poche Plantation RV park. I was hoping someone on this forum had been there. It's also close to Baton Rouge and Now Orleans and also rated very high. Price is about the same no matter where you go in that area unless it is a low rated park. Thanks for all your help. Will be making a decision soon.

Rick, we have also stayed at Lakeside & if you notice the angle of each site makes for easy backing in & you are angled enough that it does not feel as close as it appears. We have a week booked in Jan. somtime with another RW owner on our way to Houston area.

One thing while in the area - DO take some time to go see the plantation homes - great tours...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...s_in_Louisiana

Nottaway is just across the river from Baton Rouge and there's 20 or 30 all up and down the Mississippi ...

Many have great restaurants too ...

Yes, we plan on checking out the area, thanks for the recommendation. My brother would like to really experience the food so we will definitely be checking out the available varieties. We would also like to hit New Orleans for at least 1 day, neither of us has been there in the last 15 - 20 years.

well Nawlin's has changed - a LOT - so enjoy, but be vigilant...

The Myrtles, Houmas House... and check out Oak Alley plantation from the levee side if you go that far - 200+ year old live oaks that are stunning...

Court of Two Sisters restaurant is nice !

but then there aren't many BAD restaurants in South Louisiana

Thanks for the guidance. Yes, we know, N.O. is not the place it used to be. We will only be there during the day and very vigilant! I remember that there was a mom and pop small deli near Cafe' De Mond that was known for their mufaletta sandwich. I think it was their original concoction. Do you know anything about it or if it is still there?

I haven't been to NO since the rebuild - curious what is different? better or worse? Just asking because we talked about a weekender there after the holidays.

Crime has always been an issue in N.O. and I don't think it has gotten any better. Even years ago, you had to be very vigilant about your surroundings and what area you are in. I prefer to be where there are lots of people and I would never go into the French Quarter at night, anyway that's my opinion.

We were there a couple of years ago & there are several places that they've not started the rebuild yet. DW said "Okay, been there, done that, no need to return".

The home of the original muffuletta is The Central Grocery an old Italian grocery located in the French Quarter near the Café Du Monde. I get a sandwich anytime I am in the area. Janis and I are from Covington Louisiana. So we know many good places to eat in New Orleans. It is a city with crime, but what city is not. Hope you and your brother have a good stay in Louisiana

Thank you for that information. We have made reservations at Poche Plantation. It looks like there are many restaurants in that area that should satisfy his quest for Southern/cajun food. We do plan on going to N.O. for 1 day and we do plan on going to the Central Grocery and Cafe' Du Monde. He and his wife have never experienced the muffuletta or the beignets! Truly a treat for everyone!!

When we sell the sticks and bricks this will be our go to spot for holiday's. One son lives across the street and the other 4 live just a few miles from Livingston. They have monthly rates.
