What do you think about this mod ?

Mulling over this mod....

Since we don't have a gen set (yet ),
when we first get to a campsite after a long drive in 100 heat,
it takes a LONG time to cool the rv down even with opening fantastic vents to get heat out at first...

The first thing I do is plug in and set the ac's on FREEZE , but still a long wait...

My thoughts are that the roof cavity is near boiling and the first thing the ac needs to do is cool the roof cavity and distribution vents...
On my old rv I could slide a direct vent to NOT go thru the roof, but dump the cold air straight down and that helped a lot....

SO, was looking at this:
http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Fab-Prod...f+-+Attic+Vent

and thought about putting one or two on the roof to vent the attic cavity.
Could use a hole saw to remove just the skin and obviously, would seal it well....

Your thoughts ?

Is there enough room up there to allow them to draw the heat out ?
Is there a best place to install them ?
Thinking one at a high point in the bedroom and one in the living room away from the existing vents....

In winter it would help with getting condensation out as well...

I think to be effective, you would need to know whether or not there is space in the roof "cavity". I tend to think that there is no space because of insulation and the like. At the very least, there has to be supports that would block the flow of air.

In regard to the vent, I had a few installed in my boat and they work well.

Not sure if the whole roof is the same as where the satellite cables are located, but it is about 3-4 inches of space packed with insulation. Can't imagine that there are any areas in the roof cavity not filled.

If I recall without going on the roof that there's already 2-3 up there in center line of the roof, not solar just vents.

John,

There already are roof vents up there like Danny said. You might only need to add one of those to create the circulation. At least a one to one ratio. If you over-fan, they won't draw any more than they can get through a supply (in other words if you have 3 vents, only replace one with the fan).
