West Lake Tires?

I am not sure how many of these West Lake Tires are out there on Redwood RV's. But, I'd be interested in knowing approximately how many miles Redwood Owners are getting out of them.

I just passed 15000 miles on our West Lakes, and they are 2.5 years old. Planning on replacing them with the Sailun S637 17.5 inch tires and wheels in the Spring.

Would like to know what others are using and how the West Lake tires worked out for anyone who had them?

Thanks in advance.

We got at least 25,000 miles out of our Westlake Gs that came new on the RW, and they had very little signs of wear. We replaced them due to sidewall cracking with the Sailun 235/85R16G. But overall not disappointed with the Westlake Gs and totally satisfied with the Sailun Gs.

Regarding the sidewall cracking, were there actual cracks that were obvious? My RV Dealer mentioned they saw sidewall cracking on my rear driver side Westlake ST235/85R16 G rated tires that are 2 years old. All I can see on the tire are light brown streaks but no obvious "cracks".

Yes when I got down close and inspected before leaving Yellowstone for Florida there were small but obvious age cracks in the sidewalls on each tire. Our RW was manufactured Aug 2014 so I assume the tires were about 3-3 1/2 years old. I wouldn't expect the Westlakes to last too much longer than that and wasn't willing to take my chances with them. If there were no cracks I would have made the trip and then looked at replacing anyway. Sailun 637 and Goodyear 614s are a much better proven tire. BTW I found the Sailuns on sale through Simpletire.com for $115/ea plus shipping and mounting. They cost me total installed $625 and no regrets.

The Westlakes on my 2017 31SL also had very obvious cracks in the sidewalls. You'll know it when you see it. I estimate that they had maybe 1800 miles on them, but they were manufactured in mid 2015. I figure that they sat on the dealer's lot in the sun for too long. I just replaced them with a set of Goodyear 614's. I also discovered that the lug nuts are really too short and pretty cheesy (the tire shop rounded the points on 8 of 32 nuts). I plan to replace them with 2.5" hardened steel Gorilla nuts.

If your lug nuts are like mine, they have an extension sort of on them and unless you have a good Deep Well 6 point socket you will only bite on the very rear section. Even being careful I rounded a couple before I went an bought a deep well 6 point.

You're right, the nub on the end of the nut is stupid, and bottoms out in a typical short socket with very little bite on the points. The nuts also aren't long enough for an impact socket. The thicker socket interferes with the wheel and also barely catches the points. That's why I'm ordering longer (2.5") nuts.

I actually found a deep well 6 point, but with a slightly thinner wall which allows it to fully seat all the way to the wheel.

I got something like these, but for the life of me cannot remember where??

They are coated to protect the center cap, and face of the wheel.. They go all the way down the lugnut...
