Valance came down

We had a 300 mile run on Thursday. The GPS took me on some nasty roads I had never been on before. They were under construction and broken up pretty bad. When we got to our destination the Valance over the bed had come down. It was installed with 1 1/2" screws through the Valence and into the 1/8" luan ceiling panel.
It was a pretty poor installation just screwed into the 1/8" wood and nothing else, no studs or plugs or molly's. Another chore for this weekend.

I hear 'ya. One of my other projects this past weekend was the installation of shelving in the W/D closet. The side walls are paper thin so I attached wooden stringers (still need to be wood stained) on all three walls. Attached the stringers with molly bolts.

Yes, a BIGGG package of mollys might be a good item to have in the ol' toolbox. We are having the same issues.

LMAO last year in my travel trailer my wife's closet bar ripped out of the wall. I looked in there and can't even imagine how she got that much clothes in there in the first place. We are not full timers but more of your weekend travelers. I asked her why do you need so much hanging clothes we're camping? She didn't talk to me for a week and I still had to fix the closet bar.
Now in the RW just before we pull out to move I take all of her clothes off the closet bar and put them ever so nicely on the floor. Problem solved.

I could never full time. Two females, nearly 12 pair of shoes each for 10 days of camping last week . DW asked where my shoes were and I told her I store them on my feet.

When I ask my wife where any item of my clothes might be she says I'll get it honey. I finally figured out why. She dooesn't want me to know that I don't have any space any where in the closet or drawers that's mine and that all of my stuff is spread out where ever she finds room for it without having to move any of her stuff.

Back to the question at hand: I'm going up to the RW this afternoon and I'm bringing everything I need to fix the valance. So I got molly's, toggle bolts, plugs etc. I have a carpentry shop in my place of business so I decided to try out a piece of 1/8" luan and see what would hold in it's place, and hold the valance overhead without ripping out again. The answer was hollow door molly's. The skin of a hollow door is the same as the walls and ceiling in the RW. In trying to collapse the molly it would spin in the hole if I tried using molly's with points that held it in place the points would cut through the luan. My manager handed me one of these molly installers. A little pricey for the job but it worked perfectly. Now I have the proper tools and molly's to get the job done.

I use those a lot, but I've never actually seen the tool that starts them! Pretty cool. I've always had to rely on the spiked collar to hold it in place to keep it from turning while using a screw gun to collapse it, and it didn't always work! Thanks for the info!
