I just bought a 2014 Redwood Fifth Wheel and kept the stabilizer jack / king pin jack from my old camper. Is this jack even necessary to use on the Redwoods? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Most do not use them with their Redwoods. The Redwoods pretty are stable with the six point jacks.

I think it could help with some of the side to side movement but then you'd also have to carry the crazy think around. If you're going to be using your Redwood as a stationary cabin, it might be worth a try but if you're going to be on the move I wouldn't bother.

Yesterday I went with the in-laws to pick up their new Columbus by Forest River. The rv tech doing their PDI seemed to know his stuff. They got the electric 6 point leveling system. The tech recommended using a king pin stabilizer even with the 6 point system. He said it was not to help with noticeable movement, but to support the front cap. He said he has seen many brands of fifth wheels where over time the movement and stress on the front cap causes a degree of separation of the front cap from the rest of the coach. Thinking of getting one for ours if nothing else to put under the pin while in storage as the front cap is just kinda sitting out there with no support. Any thoughts?

I don't think the separation he sees is from the coach sitting without a stabilizer jack, but the pounding that it receives going down the road. I guess the stabilizer jack is a personal decision. My opinion would be try it without the stabilizer and if you think you need more, borrow one and try it. You could then make the decision if it is worth the expense and hassle of hauling it around.

Unless he has seen that kind of damage on a unit in the last 4 years, I think he is drawing on ancient experience. Some of the early 2000 frames had issues - and it didn't have anything to do with people walking up there when parked. How did this seasoned fella recommend adding a tripod to he triglide with an air bag?

What I would be FAR more concerned with is loosing hydraulic pressure and having 4,200 lbs come down on that tripod! It might be sticking up through your bed.Edited by: atom ant

You hook on to these king pins with dually trucks being 350 or 450 and yank them from one coast to the other up mountains, not counting the braking and I'm supposed to think that just sitting there is going to effect it. Makes no since. My washer and dryer are between the front and middle leveling legs so that shouldn't effect it either. I though they were so kids couldn't run into them.
