Shocks for the Tug

I was just looking at my shocks on my Dodge I have been running Rancho 9000XL. These are a throwback from my days of off-roading. They seen to work well for towing (even though they are worn out) I am about to replace them an was wondering if any one has them on their Redwood Tug. I hope this is not one of those truck brand, Oil brand war things.

Tom, that's what I had on both my tow vehicles... and the three Ford 'deezle' Excursions before them

Really liked the ability to tune the shock to my needs at the time..
I even saved the in cab controller from my last set !!!

Once a year they have a special deal where you can get them for about $80 per shock.

I don't have the in cab adjuster. Is it worth the effort to put it in? I have used Rancho 9000 for years and put them on this truck when it was new. I was not towing then so I was just wondering.

Been looking also! May be a coin toss between the Rancho 9000 or Bilstein 5100?? Both have good reviews, just don't know how often you have to adjust the Ranchos!

I have always used the Ranchos on my duallys, but with my new Denali dually I am getting ready to install the Bilsteins.

Back in the day I had an Excursion doing all of the dirty work. That vehicle didn't have the best reputation for pulling heavy, bumper pull trailers. I put the Bilstein 5100 on it and those babies went a long way to helping the Ex pull much better. I've gone with Bilsteins ever since.

I've been happy with Rancho's on both my trucks. I don't even bother to back them down on my dually anymore.

Since I've had no ride-issues with my dually, I wouldn'tt think of replacing with anything but OEM. My last dually rode like a cement mixer but this one is so nice.

Reminds me of the saying..."If it aint broke, don't fix it."

The 2005 Dodge dually four-wheel-drive is not known for its sweet ride that is for sure. The Rancho 9000s when they were new improved the ride greatly. When it comes down to shocks Bilstien, or Ranchos..... Seems like another Chevy, Dodge, or Ford thing.

I pulled the Rancho today boy were they shot. I replaced them with the 9000s again. This time I don't think I will let them go for 170,000 miles

I have a 6 speed manual shift transmission, and it is in really good shape.connected to that is a South Bend dual disk clutch only has about 30,000 miles on it. The 3600psi pressure plate is finally starting to soften up. The DW cussing me every time she has to drive the truck. However I never hear her complain when she is towing the RW, except in heavy traffic. She likes the holding power of the clutch when she has to pull the RW up a steep hill from a dead stop. Everything has its upsides and downsides.

So Tom, I hope you're not sleeping while your DW does all the hard work.
