Scare light...

Anyone know if the trim ring around the "scare light" is stainless, aluminum or white?
I always thought that mine was stainless steel or aluminum, but when I was going up to wax today, I was surprised to see that it was white. When I ran my finger around the trim ring, a white chalky residue came off on my finger & the Body paint was drip-stained under the light.

Is it possible my trim ring used to be finished metal and is totally corroded? What does yours look like?

When I replaced the bulb in mine it looked to be painted aluminum. Until you brought it up, I thought I had bird droppings where the birds might have been sitting on my scare light. Now I'm thinking it might be the same thing.

It is white and residue is running down the side. I have the same issue. I'm going to remove it one day and paint it so it won't do it anymore.
