All, I havew been in touch with Alexandria Trusov, Director of Marketing, CrossRoads RV. I have sent her a draft Constitution/By-Laws for the Redwood RV Club and Redwood has no objection. Multiple email messages (new to old) follow this post thatareassociated with this endeavor. Redwood has established a domain for the club - Redwoodrvclub.com. However we need someone with a lot more computer savvy than me to make it work. Regarding the club web page, she stated the following: We secured the domain for your use. Creating a website (or not) is your choice. Just let us know where the domain servers need to be directed. (That would allow your programmer access the domain.) Additionally, if someone would provide me instructions on how to attach a word document to this forum, I will attach the draft constitution/by-laws for all to review, edit, change, etc. Redwood is planning a rally at their factory in Syracuse, IN sometime in August and would be glad to host a dinner. No specific date set yet.
I am not, in any manner, directing anything to anyone, just thought it was time to get off deadstop and start the ball rolling downhill regarding establishing the redwood club. Please advise as to any changes, additions and I will make necessary corrections and provide copies to originators, and send all to Ms Trusov. Thanks

Ms Trusov, thanks for the response and work on this issue. Will your factory rally be held at your manufacturing location in Syracuse, IN, or are you planning on an other location? Do you have date for the Rally? I tried getting on the redwoodrvclub.com page, need a customer number and login. Can you make the passwords and logins we use for the Redwood Forum work for the redwoodrvclub page as well? Would you link the redwoodrvclub.com to the Redwood Forum. I will post a msg on the forum with instructions on how to get to the redwoodrvclub.com page and once I have access to the club page I will post a draft constitution for review by members.

Let me know when the page is linked and what customer number and password combination I need to post items to the page.
Thanks
John

Thanks. My wife and I and two Grand Girls will be taking our Redwood Coach (36FL) on an
8440 mile trip throughout the western US starting in June. I will have plenty of time to work any issues while the truck is rolling as my wife drives (she HATES my driving, and I enjoy not driving).

Alexandria, I understand Redwood recently manufactured their 1000th unit. Great accomplishment. So we have potentially 1000 owners at this time spread throughout this country and Canada. I am available to assist in the development of a Redwood Owners Club.
Thanks

Alexandria, I have been in contact with Art Johnston and he is unable to continue with this project due to medical issues. So I am willing to assist. Recommend you post the draft "by laws" or "constitution" to the forum as a separate topic and have them submit their recommends to you. You forward to me and I will incorporate into the document. I am also willing to coordinate a rally in the late Oct or early Nov time frame to gather a group and get this club going. We are a growing Redwood family and need some structure on both sides of the Redwood (owners/manufacturer) regarding a conduit to improve the product and associated services as well as enhance word of mouth marketing (a positive influence here is always a good thing).
thanks
John

You are welcome. Do you know how to upload a pdf file to this forum? Better yet, any ideas on how to get the web page going? Prior to retirement I had 16 Data Processing personnel working for me, I never worried about the "how to" just the end product and Soldier support.

Thanks
John

Hi John:

Early suggestions to ROCI Constitution:

Provision for holding meetings or voting via approved email address.

Provision to hold regular meetings and/or executive meetings via teleconference.

Provision for credentials - VIN# required for membership.

Voting change: One unit/one vote. 2nd vote addscomplication for no benefit. We cannot control,

track orverifywhohas spouse, who had a spouse, the spouses name & name changes, divorces,

deaths,etc., but VIN#/owner can be verified.Edited by: 5th_Time

I use Weebly for the creation of my website, http://www.travelinandersons.com. They have a lot of different style templates to make it easier to built a site. Check it out and give your feedback about whether you think it will work for a redwoodrvclub.com site.

John:
To help you translate Redwood's above response... "Redwood hasestablished a registereddomain name for the club redwoodrvclub.com." This means that Redwood hasregistered the domain name redwoodrvclub.com to themselves for our use. They are requesting that we select our own"hosting service" vendor (such as Network Solutions)to host our website after it is developed and uploaded. The hosting service will assign us an IP address for our site.

"Just tell us where the domain servers should be directed" This means that they will go into the Domain Name Service (DNS) where they registered our domainand "point" it to the IP address that our hosting service assigned us (above). That way, instead of everyone having to type an IP addresslike 202.50.120.103 to visit our site, they only have to remember www.redwoodrvclub.com and the DNS servers will translate their request and direct it to our IP address. This is how the entire web works behind the scenes.

Once we develop our website, we would also provide the administrator of Redwood's websiteour IP addressso that they could publish a hot link such as: Visit The Redwood RV Club from their site towww.redwoodrvclub.com and users would bedirected to our club's website.

Mike, I am not really proficient with web page development. It appears that you have a helluva lot more knowledge than I on this process. Would you develop a basic page that we can post pictures, items of interest, our constitution, plans for get togethers, recommendations for improvements and tech support?I can do a lot of things but I am really not a web page developer.
Thanks
John

We should definitely look at other forums and check out the software used.

I am a member of the Mark II Forum (http://www.markiiforum.com) which is
an automobile owners forum and the topics regarding vehicles are very
similar to our needs. Technical topics and sub topics can be created.
Pictures and documents (manuals, pdf files) can be uploaded.

Ideally we can find someone that has knowledge of such forums and can
encourage he or she to setup and start moderating and maintaining the
system. I have setup small scale BBS systems for my son and his friends
a few years so I can lend a hand but I don't have current knowledge of
what systems are available. Cost should not be too prohibitive and if
we lean towards an open-source modular system, it can grow as required
by the club needs.

John:

Web Services is a big industry and segmented by sub-industries like web designers, developers, coders and content providers.

My expertise is in design & implementation of the actual hardware, software and hosting ofsmall-site servers. After we implement the network, we rely on the same web designers and developersto provide the website and content that our club will need. Sorry, but I don't have the expertise needed to provide what you have requested.

We need a unit owner(s) with this type of specialized expertise to help us design and code our site. Of course, it's always better if we have a well-designed, professional site in our industry to emulate.

I suggest that once we get the basic shell of the club rolling, that you appoint a sub-committee of owners who might have this expertise, to work on this project. This would require a substantial commitment of time from those who volunteer.

John, from what I read I gather Web Services would host the site but not design or maintain it. Is that correct? Is there a link to their website?

Redwood purchased the domain name Redwoodrvclub.com. Any web site that is developed will be done by us and maintained by us under the guise of the Redwood Club. I do not have the expertise to develop a webpage but am learning. Any assistance by anyone to develop a web page would be appreciated. Redwood will link it to this forum once we get it established.

We're going to need to decide on the basic design elements and what information we want to include. I would imagine there would be a page for:
Bi-laws
Calender of events or rallies.
A Redwood/industry news page
Technical articles
A link to authorized service centers...etc...

The website probably won't include a discussion forum because it would compete with Redwood's own forum (this one).
Another question is who will be paying the hosting fees? Redwood has secured the domain name but that is only part of the cost of owning a website.
Since we are considering bi-laws I assume there will be an executive committee with a president, v.p. and treasurers if there are dues. If there are dues the club should have a Paypal account for members to pay them.
I think all these details need to be worked out in advance so the web designer will know what page elements will be needed for the site.
again... just my 2c

Some more ROCI thoughts...

I agree with Steve on all points. But I think the club should be organized and chartered before we get too far along developing a website. There is some information gathering that those interested in this aspect can start in advance though.
When it comes to the design elements, it's helpful to gather information by starting with a list of well- designed sites of other RV owner's clubsor user's groups that are interesting and"flow". A sub-committee should then review these and add/subtract the elementsto customize the site. The point would be to emulate a design that already works, saving several iterations and the effort to develop them. Sometimes these good sites use templates or low cost hobby designers that list their links at the bottom of their pages.

After there are officers and a treasurer, the dues should be in-line with other clubs, but substantial enough to make a commitment. Even though the tendency would be to set them as low as possible, there will be expenses and funds needed as seed money for activities - such as advance deposits and expenses when organizing a rally.

The membership should be restricted to owners registering by a valid VIN# that could be verified by Redwood. This willeliminate the SPAM problem that we have here. People who have ordered would become eligible to register after they receive their VIN# from Redwood or their dealer. People who are enthusiastic about the product or are gathering information for a future purchase will still be members of thiscurrent forum but not eligible to join.

I agree with both of you Mike and Steve. Would the first step be to elect officers? Or at least nominations of officers?

Information I received from Ms Alexandria Trusov indicated they were not managing the web site but the club would manage the web site. Their involvement would be a link on the forum and that they secured the domain name.

If past history is any indicator, I don't think there will be much if anyinvolvement from Redwood. Although we do want to be sureto establish our need for a timely confirmation of VIN#s so our admin can complete the registration process on a timely basis.
