Redwood Improvements

Tonight I had to drop down some of the underbelly of my RL to check for a kinked water line. In doing so, I now realize why my water tank froze a few weeks ago. Now to be fair to Redwood, it was -7 with high winds but these are suppose to be 4 season's coaches. I guess the 4 seasons are in the south around Florida. When I looked inside the underbelly all I saw was the shiny foil bubble wrap type of insulation.

There's not much room under there but I'm going to install heat elements and try to put up some "R board". This won't add much insulation but it should help. I want this coach to be able to be used in the winter as an emergency shelter. Besides, I never know what type of weather I could run into while traveling in the late fall going through the mountains.

In the brochure it looks like the lower floor just has 1 layer flex foil and then the corragated belly. The batt insulation is under the coach floor and above the basement.

How was it heated? by a furnace duct?

The bottom of the tanks are insulated with the foil only. The good thing is....the tanks are easy to get to in case you have problems with one of the waist valves. It takes a 3/8 socket on a drill to remove the underbelly.

Well just completed another mod to the RW. Installed 170 degree hinges (like on the pantry door) on the doors of the island counter. Now they open enough so you can get thing in and out. We keep a large electric frying pan in the bottom, and you need both doors open to get it out, and with the OEM hinges it was a real PITA. Now no problem.
Are you listening Redwood, something to change that will cost next to nothing, but get lots of thanks from those of us that have to get things in and out of there.

We also changed the hinges on the island cabinet. Easy quick fix. In my opinion it should be that way from the factory also.

We found our hinges at Rockler woodworking. Rockler.com. Item # 23554. Price was $16.19/each
They are 170 degree hinges and screw right into the original holes. Hope this helps. Tom

Maggie,

Go to this link to see the difference in Blum Hinges...

http://www.leevalley.com/US/Hardware...41&p=55420

Looks like 170 deg are for faceless applications. Face frame hinges only open 120 deg.

My freezer don't even get to -7, I guess I have to confess I'm a fair weather above 55 degrees kind of guy.

Just wired in an outlet inside the bathroom vanity. Can now plug-in and store electric tooth brushes inside the vanity, freeing up precious countertop space. Tapped into existing bathroom outlet for power.

Was this in the area for the black tank or for the grey tanks? We are able to get the underbelly for the black tank off but the one under the main section of the coach where the grey tanks are would not come off without cutting it. We had a leaking grey tank that would overflow into the underbelly. Got 20 gallons out of the underbelly twice thanks to that leak. The screws for the underbelly were put on from the top so not access to the screwhead near the steps, and the back end tucked up under the back cap so no access there. The Crossroads Service Center had to CUT the underbelly to get access!

I'm glad I am retired, my Redwood will stay above freezing, we may get around freezing for a few hours in Baton Rouge but that's about it. I do meet a lot of Canadians down here in the winter. I go North in the Summer, I hate snow and cold weather. Cargo shorts year round.

Dave, Do you think it froze while you were on the road or when docked? That area should get heat to it when docked and using propane right? Concerns me cause we will for sure get down to 0º in the next few weeks.
