Propane for my bbq...

Happy Fourth everyone !

On my last rig I could hook my grill up to my 5er with a 6 foot hose...

Never really LOOKED for the outside connection on our 2014 38gk,
have I just overlooked it ?

and what do we need to install/hook up to one?

Thanks in advance !

Happy 4th JB2 !!
We have just opened the door on the curbside, and attached the grill to that bottle to run the grill. I did have someone tell me that the open hose coming from the change over switch could leak gas, but did not seem to be a problem

I put a T & valve on the curbside bottle & use 2-6' hoses & run them down/out of compartment, also installed a hook in that compartment to store, works great for me.

The changeover is actually designed so you can remove a tank and go fill it while the other is supplying gas. The only reason it should leak gas is if the selector is set to the tank you removed.

I pull one of my 40s every once in a while to run patio appliances, (fire pit, etc) when my 11# runs out. Mine does not have the tap you are talking about John.

I've always had 2 #30 cylinders in my rigs. According to my last dealer, federal law states that Manufacturers are limited to #60 pounds of Propane, apparently not true, since 2- #40 pounders are available on Redwood. But Crossroads had a great idea on my rig, It had 3 #20's, with room for a 4th. So, one could conceivably put 4 #40 pounders in there, or just trade out #20's about anywhere in the country, since most convenient stores have #20 pound exchange cages. I bought a 4th #20, and 80lb gets me close to a month during the winter months. My Redwood is coming with 2 #30's. Is there room to put more bottles in the propane compartments? Or, do I just trade up to 2 larger tanks?

Put a T on the regulator so I would draw from the tank I was using for other appliances. Had a propane hose long enough to hook to tee and run down and underneath to curb side of trailer. Run the line through loom for protection. Put shutoff valve and quick connect on end of hose fastened to frame of trailer. Just have to hook up grill hose (which has other end of quick connect) to connect, turn on valve, and am ready to grill.

There is only a space for one tank on each side, you could have 20#, 30# or 40# tanks, they all will fit but you would probably not have enough connecting hose for the 20# tanks without putting something under them to get the valve high enough to connect to.

We removed the standard 30# and put in 40's. Sold 1 30# back to the dealer and kept the other as a spare for the BBQ and fireplace.

Don't believe you could fit extra tanks in the compartments.

We have the quick connect on the truck camper. It's nice... but: I don't think I want the BBQ right next to my RW, AND/OR a long propane hose running to get it away. Much better to just have a dedicated propane tank (for us) for the bbq. The effort to pull out a small propane tank is hardly ore than hauling out a long propane hose. It's been tough deciding, but for us, it works. We have a great little aluminum foldup table for the bbq to set on, and we can put it wherever it works best. I DID want the connect valve, but have decided that I can live without it (surprisingly).

Did use the small tank for years before we got the Redwood. Have had no problem with the hookup, and the BBQ is further away from the camper than the built in appliances that have an open flame.

As I stated earlier, I installed a T with a valve at the bottle, but not 2-6' hoses, but a 6' & a 12' with quick connect on grill end so I can get plenty far from rig & takes no time to retrieve/recoil hose.

Buddy got an electric griddle and thought he was in heaven until he noticed he had turned the color of his filon siding on his SOB because all the grease he was throwing up there. He cooks away from the camper now.
