Need AC/Heat troubleshooting ideas
Morning all. Need some ideas before I dig into why I don't have electric heat from the main unit.
First, it's been working fine, just the way it's supposed to up until today. Went to turn electric heat on and it didn't come on but defaulted to gas. I made sure we were only set at 2 degrees above ambient which is normally fine. Even at 1 degree above it went to gas. Checked AC side of thermostat and unit comes right on so I know there's power up there. It finally did go to electric but took a few tries.
Now - here's the one difference - we are in a spot with 30a only. Think it might be a voltage/amps issue and the unit is switching to gas because of that ? I know it's a smart thermostat but wasn't sure if it is test smart.
Ideas are appreciated. Thanks all !

Vaughan, the thermostats don't have that capability. The newer Redwood units with 3 ACs and the power management system could shed loads, but not our older ones.
What is the temp outside? If it's below 35-40, it will go to gas regardless of the delta on the thermostat. Also, did the AC breaker perhaps trip?

Thanks Brad. I didn't think the thermostats did either. Outside temp is 48-50 so should have been fine. Beginning to think I may have a bad selector switch on the thermostat. All AC breakers are fine. After I cycled through gas heat, electric heat, back to off and then back to electric it worked. I have a suspicion that there may be a new thermostat in my future. Lol
We're in West Yellowstone Montana for the summer now. Got in yesterday. Still a bunch of snow everywhere, I'm guessing it is July before the piled up snow mounds melt !! If anyone swings out this way, say hi. We are working in a shop called Madison Crossing and staying in Branding Iron RV park in town (glorified parking lot but included in our jobs).

Vaughan,
Stephanie and I usually make it to West at least once a year. We like to stay at Grizzly if we are staying in town or out at Hebgen lake. It is also a very easy flight in my Skylane so sometimes we just come for the weekend and take in the entertainment at Playhouse Theater.
We will try to say hi sometime this year and we can talk RV's and Airplanes.
BTW we watch live webcams up there frequently, looks like the snow piles are getting smaller fairly quickly.
Larry
