Installed MorRyde SRE 4000 Suspenson on our Redwood

I finally got around to installing the MorRyde SRE 4000 on our Redwood 38FL.
I had previously installed the MorRyde Wet Bolt kit, changing out all the plastic bushings to Bronze Bushings and the much heaver MorRyde linkage.

While it is not the MorRyde IS Suspension (not in our budget right now), in my opinion I believe it is much better than the standard Trail Air Suspension unit than came on our Redwood.

The SRE 4000 is a rubber shear type unit that has no metal to metal contact (similar to a motor mount on a car) on the unit and provides a better cushion and smoother ride than the standard Trail Air unit.

We will move again next weekend when we travel to Sarasota FL, will see how it preforms then.

How difficult was the install? Also wondering about the cost. Please provide an update after trip. We installed G load range tires which seems to made the ride stiffer.

Looks very nice. We are planning for that install before our trip in the fall. The video on youtube looks pretty impressive. Please report after your move on the performance.

Install done a couple of hours, pretty easy with a good bottle jack.

Cost is about $400 for the SRE 4000 and X Factor cross member support (comes standard with the SRE 4000).

I will post a update after our move next weekend.

Thanks

Bill,

A few months ago I changed the Redwood Stock Spring Shackles to the MorRyde HD Shackles with Wet Bolts and removed the all of the plastic spring bushings and installed the Bronze Bushings that come with the MorRyde Kit.

Redwood installs an approx 3 1/8" Shackle with the Trail Air Suspension.
Since I was 99% sure I was going to install the SRE 4000 at some point in the future I installed the MorRyde 2 1/4" Shackles (MorRyde Part Number UO12-016) that MorRyde recommends using with the SRE 4000.

Between the change to the shorter MorRyde Shackles and the MorRyde SRE 4000, it lifted our Redwood about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2".

As long as these most of these Redwoods are, a little more Ground / Running clearance is a good thing.

Be aware of that additional spring travel as you go through road dips maneuvering in town. I went from a standard spring Montana to a Mor Ryde LRE Montana and pulling through the same dips in an intersection at our storage I was shocked how much further the Montana rolled to the side. We actually broke our microwave window with the glass dish because the kitchen slide tipped out and slapped back in through the dips. Once I got used to it I approached some irregular intersections with a little more caution.

I know AA, I installed the same setup on our previous 5er and never had any problems with it coast to coast.
It does have more travel and tends to smooth's things out on the highway but you do have to be aware of the extra travel.

Made our first move since installing the MorRyde SRE 4000 suspension on our Redwood and the Lowering Shackles on our GMC 3500HD.

The Redwood rode much better, it was easy to see the additional axle travel with the MorRyde suspension when going over rough sections of road (we traveled through a lot of construction on I-75 yesterday)

The Lowering Shackles made a big difference on our GMC Truck, truck rode level and much more stable and very minimal bounce when entering and exiting bridges or rough sections of the highway.

Also between the slight lift of the Redwood height after the MorRyde install (about 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch) and slight lowering of our GMC after the lowering shackle install (about 1 inch 1 1/2 inch) I was able to increase the clearance between our truck bed and our Redwood but raising our hitch height by one position.

Picture after installation of Lowering Shackles on GMC and MorRide Suspension on Redwood

Our previous fiver, a Montana, did not come with wet bolts and did come with plastic bushings. I changed to wet bolts and brass bushings. I assumed that the RW came with brass bushings since it came with wet bolts. Looks like I was wrong????

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I have another fix it job. Can't believe they put plastic bushings on these heavy coaches.

I will be looking at yours at the rally. Looks like that is a nice change. I'm just a little concerned as I have a dodge 3500 dually so I am not sure about the extra height.

It may help with the Ram 3500. Mine is a little nose high as it is.

Rob thanks for the update. Sound like it was worth the time and effort. Great feedback on the forum on a mod to improve our overall towing comfort (the RW is probably happier too)!

Hey Bruce, mine had brass bushings around the equa flex, but plastic in the spring ends. Be sure to go with Mod rydes heavy shackles & wet bolts, it's a fairly simple afternoon project.
