Has anyone taken the time to compare the recovery time of their water heater using propane versus water heater on electric? I've always assumed it would be quicker with gas. In fact, even when shore power is available I use gas. Maybe it's time to start saving some coin.Edited by: spindrift

I have always use electric when available. With our HW tanks as big as they are, I couldn't imagine running out of hot water.

When my wife and I are taking showers back to back I turn on both the gas and electric.

My shower is too small for my wife and I to take a shower back to back. Not much room.

You should have ordered the extra large shower like I did. It's fun to shower together

We normally run on just electric, but when we need to use a lot of hot water, we also use both propane and electric. Unless a person is really over indulgent, it will keep up using both.

If you have a big enough shower to shower back to back, you can shower front to front and you won't need to worry about hot water.

When we did our walk thru, the tech told us the propane heats faster than the electric. So, if we have been on the road and not heating the water, when we get set up, we fire up the propane. When the water gets hot, we switch to electric and use that when we have shore power. And if one of us takes a really long shower, we'll us the propane to reheat, then switch back to electric.

Why use the LP when we're paying for an RV site? Just use their electricity. Same with furnace, as long as it doesn't get too cold for heat pump to work. And, we also use the fireplace and a portable electric heater when we can.

I also cook with an induction cooktop rather than propane when we have shore power.

Love the induction burner. Mine is a Burton and I bought it on Amazon. I had to get different non-stick skillets - Bed Bath & Beyond has one and I used the lid from my previous one. If a magnet sticks to the pan, it will work for induction. The one I have has a timer and a temperature function, as well as 10 power levels. So I can set it and if I forget, it shuts off and/or maintains a constant temperature. So I'd say it's safe.

I leave the cooktop cover on and just put this on top. Put it in a drawer when we travel.
