Disc Brake line failure

RW CAL had a Flex line failure from rubbing on the wheel or suspension.
If you have disc brakes check these lines running from the caliper to the frame for rubbing. This is a common problem.
Insurance: take a 6" piece of 1/2" heater hose and split it lengthwise. Wrap this around the part of the flex line you are concerned about, then wrap it with electrical tape to hold it in place. Take a zip tie if necessary and tie the line away from the area.

Thanks Ron, I'll check it out. Jee-zoots, it used to be the electric wires rubbing on the backing plate, thought that went away with disk

Ron,
This sounds similar to the failure I just had.

It's all in the routing done by RW.
When we had the IS done on our 2012 RL, Mor/ryde re-routed all the Disc Brake lines as they didn't think much of the way RW did them and I agreed as I knew that flex hose was really, really close to the spring.

I had the curb-side rear flex line rub half through from a tire on my '12 RL but caught it just in time to replace w/o failure. Luckily, that was the only one poorly installed.

Ron...do you think that brake line needs to be a tad longer? I noticed on your install at the Rally that there didn't seem to be a lot of slack for suspension movement.

Ken, Yours was a defective line. Just blew out the side of the hose. The hose is being sent to Dexter for analysis.
Flex line doesn't need to be longer. Just needs to be tied out of the way. Since we did my install at the rally, we are now using a flex line with a steel 90' that attaches to the caliper. This eliminates about 90% of the potential for rubbing. I noticed early that a straight line coming out of the caliper was difficult to route without the potential for rubbing. As of today we are the only company doing this.

It's not just Redwood that has a routing problem. Take a look at the DRV where disc are standard. They are as bad or worse than RW. All manufacturers should be using a 90' flex line.

I have just had my second failure on my 2013 36 fb. It is a very poor design.

They are unfortunately not. If you contact Performance trailer Braking at Info@performancetrailerbraking.com, they can sell you one.
