We had some work accomplished at Lippert this past summer and they recommended The G614s as those tires work better with their suspension. I purchased Sendel T04 wheels rated at 3750 lbs. Sometime prior to June we are having the MorRyde Independent Suspension installed.

Threw the tread on two tires on the way back from Texas. They were G rated Goodyear G614's. Since they were on opposite sides, did damage to both sides of the trailer. Saved the carcass and when we got home took the tires to Goodyear and filed a claim. Received the form from Goodyear, sent it in and took pictures and got an estimate. Received the releases today, and once I sign them and return I should have the checks totaling over $48oo.oo within two weeks. It's a pain, but at least Goodyear came through.

First time I've heard of a failure related to this tire. Good to know they stand behind their product and responded as quickly as they did.

not sure of all the accuracies of the story, but I understood years ago Goodyear farmed out the G614 overseas and they had catastrophic failure rates, so they brought them home.

Rodger, I'm glad to hear that you came out okay on this deal.

This is why I bought a TPMS for the Redwood tires. If I have a blowout now I'm going right to the 17.5" upgrade and be done with it.

Had the same thing happen on our Carriage about 6 years ago. I have a TPMS system, but it happens so quick that its over as soon as the monitor alarms. I happened to be looking in the mirror when the first one went. Saw the tread go flying and the alarm went off. My brother-in-law had it happen and the tire didn't lose pressure. The tread just went flying.

Curious whether that TPMS measured temperature as well. Short of running over something a tire would likely be very hot prior to letting go like that. With the current TPMS systems on the market they monitor pressure and temperature very closely.

Yes it measures temp., it wasn't hot enough to set off the high temp. alarm. Don't remember what high temp is set at, but it wasn't as hot as its been. Air temp, affects tire temp and neither day was real warm. I keep an eye on the psi's & temps, don't just wait for the alarm to go off. This is the third time I've had a G614 go. I drive about 60 MPH. Have weighed trailer and am well within GVW. Don't know what the problem is, but Goodyear has always taken the tire for testing and have never questioned the claim.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm very neurotic with the TPMS and find I check all pressures and temps frequently. Maybe I need to just start saving for some new 17.5's and be done with it.

Received the check from Goodyear for repairing the camper. $4,800.00. Now just have to make arrangements with the body shop to get it in so we will be out the shortest time.

Hate to hear this about the G-614s. They were about the last horizon before moving to 17.5s. Don't want to do it as the G-614s are still an upgrade over the marathons.

Roger,

Can you give a detailed description of how you went about making a claim? Did you go to a Goodyear tire dealer to get some paper work to start the process? Or did the dealer do the processing of the claim? I would like to know how this is done just in case for future reference. Thanks.

Guy

I took the tire to a Goodyear dealer. I've been told by a couple people that the dealer didn't want to file a claim so you may have to get a little pushy or try a different dealer. The one I went to said lets give it a try it doesn't cost anything. He filled out the claim form and I left the tire with him to be picked up and sent the claim to Goodyear. Received a letter from Goodyear with a form and instructions. They wanted a estimate (only one for an rv) pictures of the damage, where it happened, and where the damaged tire was located so they could have it picked up, and if you have replaced the tire a copy of the invoice for it. After they approved the claim, they sent a release form to sign and return. About two weeks or so after returning it I received the checks. Goodyear was good to work with, and much of the back and forth forms can be done be scanning them in and sending them by email.

With my previous 5er and the marathons
I called Goodyear direct and they emailed a claim form that I filled out, then emailed back with pictures and expenses/estimates:

Property Damage Claims Team
Attention Dept. 805
200 Innovation Way
Akron, OH 44316
800-322-4682 (phone)
888-307-1920 (fax)
pdct@goodyear.com (e-mail)

they asked me to drop the tire off at any goodyear dealer so it could be shipped back to them for testing...
