Last week's camping adventure saw some chilly temps in our region so we had the furnace fired up for the weekend. I noticed that the furnace would come on, with the fan; nothing unusual. What I noticed though was that the fan ran almost constantly except for a one or two minute off cycle. Then we woke early Sunday morning to a chilly camper with no heat and no fan. I automatically assumed that we ran out of LP so I tried the range top and that fired up. And the fridge was running. One of my tanks was empty and the valve on the other tank was open. I understand that the regulator will automatically switch over to the full tank as long as the tank valve is open. Assuming that this is correct, has anyone experienced an issue with their regulator?

We had the same problem. I leave both tanks open. But your have to open the valves very slowly in order to prevent surge and causing the regulator to shut down. When your first tank emptied the seconed did't kick in because it had probably shut itself off. If you have 40lb tanks they seem to be more sensitive to cold temps and quick turn ons. Try disconnecting and restart the process as if you had just had the tank filled but turn it on verly slow. I have gauges on both tanks and in the cold weather they both seem to read all over the place. I pulled a tank that read low and they told me it was at 85% or full. I installed it, turned it on slowly and it worked. Good luck.

Our switching regulator went bad as well as one of the regulators on the tanks. I took our coach to Ocean Grove RV in Saint Augustine, they contacted Redwood, fix was authorized and now all is well.

We do not run with both tanks open. Only one at a time. That way we know when to fill them. If one runs out, purge the air by lighting the stove on all three burners and refill the empty tank.

I had the same problem two weeks ago. One full tank and one empty so I turned the switch to the full tank and guess what, I got heat. I called RW that day and asked them why it did not switch to the other tank and was told it should have. Asked some more questions and said are you sure it is an aoutmatic switch and he said yes but he would walk down the hall and check with the experts. The experts said the tanks will not automatic switchand it is a manual switch. Also you cannot run both tanks if you put it in the neutral position. RW said they stopped installing the automatic switch. Why? I am thinking about having one installed because 2 AM in my jams outside is NOT COOL.

Apparently another Service Bulletin that didn't make it to the dealers' sale staff.

I guess I don't understand, when did Redwood stop installing the auto switch-over? My 2012 RW34SK has one and it works so far.....

Is there something physically obvious about the appearance of this auto switch-over that makes one identifiable by the casual observer?

We just picked ours up and it has the auto-changeover valve. We just went through the operation of it on our PDI. It's an RF6000 but not sure of the manufacturer.

I know what everyone is saying but I was told by the engineers at RW they are not automatic switch. I have a 36RL ordered in Nov 2012 delivered Dec 2012 and it's a 2013 model. I ordered right from the dream sheet and got almost every option you could get. I agree for this much money it should switch automaticaly but mine doesn't. I was told by the dealer Explore USA it was not automatic when I picked it up. I am going to have one installed or DIY.

Well back to the OP, obviously yours does have the changeover regulator, and it did work if you still had the range top.

I wonder if the furnace got some air during the changeover and after it cycled through trying to light it went to a fail mode like the hot water tank does.

My 2012 RL has an automatic switch and I wish it didn't. One night I ran out of LP so I went out side to switch the tanks and they were both empty. I guess I had inadvertently opened both valves by mistake.
