New 2021 Redwood Owner!

Hello from Mount Juliet, TN near Nashville. My wife and I recently purchased a brand new 2021 Redwood 4001LK known affectionately as 'The Beast' around our household. We look forward to engaging with other RW owners and traveling around in our new home away from home. We still have a few years until retirement but with COVID, I can work nearly anywhere so we decided to join the RW club now. I look forward to hopefully meeting some of you on the road one day!

We are in Shelbyville. Our 36 RL will turn 10 next year. Know you will enjoy winters in Fla, south Texas, Arizona etc.

Enjoy! Curious - what is your two vehicle? Both the camper dealer and Ford advised me an SRW would suffice. Now I’m second guessing that decision and may trade it in for a dually.

I pull my 2020 3991RD with my 2020 F-350 SRW.... Ite is within ALL the numbers and is very capable to handle the Redwood.

I did install a set of Fire Stone Ride Rite kits to level the truck once the Redwood is on.
The truck dropped about 2-1/2" when loaded, this combined with the truck riding almost level when unloaded gave it the illusion of riding low in the rear.

I use 45 psi in the bags and the truck is awesome to drive.

Ford listened to the owners when they all complained about the new trucks all riding too high for towing... This 2020 is 2" lower in the rear than my 2015 was...

We pull with a f450 4x4. Started with a f350 6.0 ltr . Turbo would shut down on small hills and bed bottomed out requiring air bags.

Not trying to tell anyone what they should be towing with, but RW seems to always be light on their Brochure Dry weights. Our '16 39MB had Brochure weight of 14K, our Yellow sticker leaving the Factory was just a tad under 16K, that's empty, no propane and one el-cheapo battery.
So I don't think there are many RWs that fall into the 350/3500 SRW category, unless you are really lightly loaded, I will admit I haven't been keeping up on the numbers of the '20 & '21 Breed of new 350/3500s.
Ours fully loaded for long term travel is pushing 19K.
And remember if a Truck Salesman/RV Salesman's lips are moving, they're probably liying to make a sale. So do yourself a favor and get scaled to know actually where you stand.

Starting with the 2020 1 Tons, Ford really upped their game.

My SRW has the following numbers -

Dry curb weight-7140#
GCWR - 30,000#
fifth wheel tow rating - 21,700#
max payload - 4562# - per sticker
RAWR - 7250
tires - 3750# ea -

the BOTTOM 2 numbers are the weak links... Staying within the axle and tire ratings....I was able to do so with my 2020 3991RD loaded for our normal week long trip....

*** IF I WERE TOWING ANY MORE THAN A WEEKEND HERE AND THERE, IT WOULD BE A DRW for me.

Can you just imagine how many RV sales would fall through if the buyer had to hook-up their new purchase and go across scales before they could leave the Dealership.
I know that Lazy Days in Florida will make an attempt to look of the numbers, and if you come up short they just have you sign a document stating that you were advised you would be over weight and it's now your problem.

The dealer that I got my 1st RW from came out and checked out the truck... I had my F150 with me... That was pretty funny trying to tell them I was gonna tow with that ! !

We pulled for a few years our 2016 36RL with a 350 diesel, this truck loves the load, and handles it with no problem, and we are in the Northeast with hills. I did put air bags on it, but really didnt like the ride, so I keep only around 15 lbs in them. The 13 F350 though will get warm oil temps on long hard hills, around 235 degrees. I have a 18 F 450, now this pulls like there is nothing behind it. But because of the dual wheels, it will pull a little left and right on uneven road surfaces. And because of the 430 gears, does drink fuel and diesel additive, but very large brakes, and a very confident pulling experience. It rides very nice empty and with the load, Pus all the safety features on the new trucks are amazing. Oh wait did I forget the best part, This truck will out turn the 350 by so much you cant believe it, empty, you can actually do a you turn on a 2 lane road easily. Both trucks set down with a load the same way, Ford set the 450 so its a nice ride empty, but as soon as the load comes on, it absorbs it easily ( I guess progressive suspension ) Barry

The 2018 450 handles the engine temps a lot better than the 2013 350, as soon as temps start to rise, the gauges go to analog, then you can gear the fan come on, and temps do not increase at all. We do use both trucks for pulling, depending on where we will be going, and the terrain.

We started with a 2020 SRW Chevy 3500 High Country. Actual weight after we got it home was significantly different than what chevy, door sticker and the dealer stated it weighed. This then changed the payload(negatively) and with some guestimates on tongue weight we were at max with nothing in the 4001LK. Too close for comfort for us, heading up to Alaska and did not want the worry. Able to work a deal with truck to get it up to a 2020 DRW Chevy High Country. Only had 400 miles on the first truck and got to use some new rebates from GM to make the switch pretty much even up. Much more comfortable with the current set up. Truck with full tank, wife and dog come in at 10,600, entire rig with everything we carry weighs in at 26,600 so coach is just at 16,000. Has an 18k high limit so we have some room to work, and the truck does not even know the coach is back there. No sway , and I hate to admit it, having the extra set of wheels in back is a big comfort in the event of a blow out...

2. Chevy website guide & Dealer- GCVW- 29,700 GVWR- 12,100 Trailer- 21,300 Truck weight 7,059 max payload- 4,185
3. Sticker on door- GCVW- 29,700, GVWR- 12,100 Truck weight- 7554 Payload-3866

* Understand the "published" numbers are for the base truck, we have the High Country so it will weigh more, just did not think as much more as it does.

Actual weight of truck with full tank of fuel and no people- 8,303 lbs. Add 600 lbs for dog(155lb malamute) wife and myself and you are at 8900 total. Actual CAT weight with all of us was dead on at 8900. Using the GVWR of 12,100, this left a payload, in my mind, of only 3200lbs. Assuming a 15,600 lb trailer and a 20% pin, we are at max with nothing in it. We have a generator, w/d and solar panels so had to adjust the estimate up somewhat for those items.

Joe , the shipping weight on the title of my 2016 GMC SRW crew 4x4 Denali diesel on the title was 8,800lbs (11,500 gvw) If that's true the fords are a LOT lighter then GM trucks!

I don't know, the Curb weight listed for my 2018 High Country is listed as 8070
