Any ofyou folks currently staying in the heat down in Texas? Is yourRWA/C able to keep up with the hot humid conditions?

We are currently in Gunnison, CO and it has been verycomfortable here. Wehave plans totravel to Mesa Verde, CO, thendown through New Mexico and on to San Antonio, TX. I am starting to have second thoughts (because of the heat) even though I have reservations for our entire trip. It doesn't look like the heat is going to break up any time soon.

We are in Grapevine, Tx and nice and comfy in our 36RL. A/C's are keeping it nice and cool here.

We were in Grand Junction, CO on Friday night - 106 was the high. Ran the A/Cs all night!

That's pretty unusual for this early in the year. Glad to be back in the CO mountains where it is much more comfortable.

And I thought we are having a heat wave - currently 94, which is really unusual for the valley East of Vancouver. Need to go get the coach and park it in the driveway so we can use the A/C's.

We even got hit in Alaska last week. Took lots of rain jackets and experienced blue sky and low 90's. First ever sun tan in Alaska.

We’re living full time in our RW 36FL in Bastrop, TX (40 miles east of
Austin). We had some problems keeping the living room comfortable. Temps have
been over 100 outside the last few days. We’ve been uncomfortable inside!

We’re new to the forum but I asked a couple of RW owners what they do
to keep the living room cool. The consensus is to turn the ACs to 70 and keep
all the AC vents closed except for the room you’re in the most during the day. Open a bedroom vent when you go to bed. </span></span>We turn
the rear AC to 75 at night and sleep just fine.

We’ve seen a big difference in our inside temperatures. It’s much more
comfortable today. We also have an oscillating fan on the counter that’s going
during the day. Don’t know if this would work for you but it is working for us.

Safe travels!

We keep our temp at around 76 deg. Also leave the ceiling fan on and have an osc tower fan in the living room and a small fan in the bedroom which are never turned off. It's been over 100 deg a few times and the rig still stays cool. Trick is in Texas use fans 24/7 during the summer.

We set up this trip in April....not thinking much about the issue of heat. It has been very nice here in Colorado Springs and now Gunnison. In about 10 days, our next locaction will be Mancos, CO near Mesa Verde, staying there for 4 days. Then, we are heading down to San Antonio, TX with a couple of over night stays along the way. Plan to stay in San Antonio for 4 days, then on to Hot Springs, AR for 4 days.

Due to the weather andheat forecast, I have been very interested in how well the Redwood A/C is doing for everyone. On our way out hear from Indiana, we came through 103 degress in Kansas and when I opened the coach after 9 hours w/o AC it was only 91 degrees inside. It took about 3 to 4 hours to cool down to where it was comfortable. My wife doesn't mind the heat so much. I just don't deal with the heat and high humidity as well.

I will be watching the weather forecast closely

Thanks for the information folks..............

We are in SE AZ. Temps 100 and above. Have been here all summer. I like it cold (don't ask me why we are in AZ) so I keep inside at 71. Both AC's working great(knock on wood!) always very nice inside. Bedroom upstairs a little warmer but not much. Keep closet door cracked to let excess heat out of closet due to poor insulation factor in nose cap. Very happy with output of AC's . In fact it gets so cold inside I have to turn one off even with temps at 100.

As Don had said, keep the closet door open slightly after you stop at night. While on the road, I have my 3 fans set so they come on when it gets above 75 degrees while I'm driving. Keep the basement doors shut and I close the roof vents as soon as I fire up the 2 a/c units.

We like to sleep with quilts so we keep our rig about 68 degrees when we sleep and we haven't had any trouble at all once we get the trailer cooled down. If you have a generator and it gets too hot, fire up the generator an hour before you get to your destination and turn on the a/c.

Dave,

You just gave an excellant reason for having a generator................keeping the coach cool while traveling down the highway. Unfortunately, I don't have the generator option. I was pleasantly surprised that inside temperature was only 91 after driving through 103 temps traveling across Kansas. I fully expected over 100 degrees.

It sounds like you have it figured out already. If your trailer is only 91 after a long drive it shouldn't take too long to cool it down. Once the heat dissipates from the walls, these Redwoods stay pretty cool.

We are full timing in Austin. This is week 4 for us. Although we have had a little trouble getting the ac's regulated, we are pretty cool now. We have learned that keeping the black out shades down helps and we have a small fan in the bedroom at night that seems to work well. Last week we hit 108 and it was HOT! We had the shades down, but not the black out one. Once we put those down as well it seems to stay cool enough. Temps haven't been so bad the last couple of days since it rained, so we will see as the summer progresses.

I had a key fob remote for the generator on my Montana. I would set the A/Cs and then about 2 hours out I would fire up the gen from the cab. The only problem was I had to be in town, otherwise I couldn't hear that quiet genny start.

I may have to put a remote on it again.

We like our bedroom dark so we bought some of that bubble shiny insulation from Camping world and put it over the bedroom windows. This keeps both the light and heat out.

Dave, why don't you just pull the shades down?

I bought the Onan Keyfob remote start kit for my factory GenSet. It's called the EC15W (Ebay $236).

Took about an hour to put in. Now I can start my generator remotely from the house to exercise it, and to power house during a power failure - like a winter storm.

I never thought aboutrunning it while towing.Does getting a headstart with the ACs really make that much difference?

Been Full Timing it since March in San Antonio TX. Nope problem with keeping it comfortable inside in the heat. And were from the north. Keep the dark shades pulled, open the awning during the day to keep sun off that side helps. and we reversed the ceiling fan and that helped also. Agree with others about the oscillating fans. One for the living room, we have the 36FL and a stand oscillating fan for the bed room. No problem with the ac’s keeping up even while cooking and using the dryer during the day. Dont be afraid.... COME ON DOWN! Nice place to stay in Boerne TX about 15 miles north of San Antonio.

Chuck,

What about outside activities.............do you do outside activities in the mornings and stay inside in the afternoons? I have to admit that I haven't been in Texas since I was in the Air Force in 1961 having gone through Lackland AFB there in San Antonio. That was in March and it was quite cool which is more my kind of weather.

We are hoping to visit the River Walk, the Alamo and a few other sites while there. Our current plans are to stay in San Antonio for 3 days, then move on east to Hot Springs, AR for a few days, then working our way back towards Indiana.
