As far as truck brands go, I've had all 3and they have all been excellent for me. I'm not brand loyal - some people like Coke and some like Pepsi. As for the weight ratings, I've read there is going to be a standardized system so that all the manufacturers will be tested the same and they will not be able to just come up with their own numbers.

We'll I think that's a good idea because to be honest I don't trust any of them.

I wanted the Dodge with the Cummins diesel but I had to switch to the Ford SRW F350 because of this. My payload is #3960, and fifth wheel towing max of #15800 with a 355 rear axle. Now that I have the Ford I'm very happy with it.

Dave,

I curious about payload rating on your Ford. I assume that it musthave higher max weight ratings for the tires. If so, what brand/type tires are they?

I think on my Ford it's the springs that made the difference but I really don't know. I think the Dodge SRW rides smoother. I'm going to put an air-ride system on my truck in the very near future that will make the ride easier for my wife. I like a rough ride but she likes to read while I drive and she can't with the Ford. I have a customer that is a distributor for Kilderman and he said I could get the system at his costs and he wants to do some horse trading to boot.

The transmission did this all the time even unloaded in slight hills. I am sure glad I traded back to a ford.

KR2011,

I am kind of curious...........did your 2010 Dodge have the tow/haul mode switch and the gear selector on the gear shift? In going to Michigan last fall I found that placing the transmission into tow mode and selecting 5th gear instead of 6th gear, that the amount of automatic down shifting decreased to almost non-existant and the tow mode ingaged the exhaust brake very nicely when slowing down.

Hoosierguy and KR2011,

I'm right in between of you folks, about a 4 hour drive each way and there's a full hook up campground about a mile from my house that we use all the time. We should plan a get-together.

Hooshierguy, yes I had the tow hual and the padle shifter on the gear selector, I tried every combo I could think of and it did not matter, it just shifted all the time and got very poor mileage with no power.

Dave I am planning a get together as soon as my house gets hear, I wanted to wait on planning in case it takes them longer to build it than they said it would. Either way makes no difference to me I just would like to see a few these in wone place that would be impressive.

Well, it does not have to be an enormous pain to purchase a brand new car. Do not feel like you are buying a car on a whim; purchasing a car is almost always an impulse purchase. You only purchase them whenever you need one for something, such as a brand new job starting or one vehicle gets totaled. Luckily, you can go to an excellent dealership in Springfield that will help you get the ideal car. If you go to Springfield Dodge Chrysler Jeep, you will find a fantastic dealership.

I am not sure what buying a car has to do with Redwood.

we have a 2008 dodge 3500 dually, resistol model with 6.9 cummings and 6 speed allison transmission. It pulls our 40' 36FL with no problem. Our previous 5th wheel was heavier than the Redwood and we had no issues traveling in mountains or any other place. Our Dodge is also equipped with a jake brake. We highly recommend the Dodge. Additionally, our dodge is a mega cab with short bed and we have an "automatic" sliding 5th wheel hitch, which also works great. Have safe travels and enjoy your new Redwood, as we certainly enjoy ours!

I think we should send complaints to ALL the ADMINS concerning these types of posts. I sent one suggesting they allow a couple of the members here to be forum moderators. Posts that contain spam or personal attacks should be deleted from the forum and repeat offenders should be booted off.
IMHO

I agree Steve but allowing the moderators to have that kind of control would also have to be watched so that they don't become aforum Nazi.

I know.. there is no perfect solution other than the admins to actually monitor and police the forum themselves.
You'd think the powers that be at Redwood would realize that the forum is a great resource for them to get direct input from the owners of their products. But I'm just a lowly consumer..what do i know?

I'm sure that like many other things, Redwood has been caught off guard as to how sucessful and interesting this forum has become. There is a lot of information and help available here. They can learn alot about what they're doing right and what needs improvement just by monitoring. If I were running Redwood, I would assign someone to check out every post. Andy... is that you???
