Obviously we thought the 38gk was the best floor plan too

Good luck with it and great to see a mfg rep on here...

Titan Guy,

WOW!! Saw a 2015 38GK at Winterset Park in Palmetto, FL this past winter. It was very, very nice........I liked the interior colors but my wife didn't. That is probably a good thing. Our 2012 36RL coach has been such a good one that I would hate to start over anytime soon.

Good luck, safe and happy travels.

PDI went well, no real issues. Had some loose cabinet doors and a Island drawer face that had been damaged in transport. I asked that they send me the drawer face and I would install it. They want the trailer back so they can install. This is going to be a problem that Redwood will hear about. Back in Norman and parked after a very long day yesterday.

Congrats on the GK Titan Guy, we love ours as well just make sure you put one thing important on the shut down and close up process. the bedroom door has to be closed to slide in the bedroom slide...a bad on my first time doing this as my BR required the door to be open. Good luck on the new trailer and hope we meet up some day

Afternoon folks. Thanks for all the good informative responses to our pin weight and towing capacity question. we have been very busy the past week. We are scheduled for the PDI on Friday. We are still working on the towing, pin weight and tire load concerns. Each tire can handle 3840 lbs, 7680 for both.
We weighed the truck on a scale at 8740.
Per specs the front axle is 5100, rear is 3640, GAWR is 6500, payload is about 1260, GCWR is 25,300-8740=16,500 which leaves leaves 60 lbs left.
Still looking at what we can do to solve this without having to sell our new Dodge for a 350 or more. Prefer not to have a dually. What add-ons to beef up the rear suspension would work the best
Still trying to confirm if this will work????

DWSW2012,
That was about where I was with my 2006 Dodge 2500. After I added the hitch, my wife and I, I was less than 900lbs payload. That is your critical number! With the pin weight on my old trailer, I was over 2000lbs over weight...not close to being safe.

GCWR is important but usually not the issue, it's payload. No add-ons can be done (air bags, timberens, etc) will increase the payload.

Depending on your pin weight, you might get away with a 1 ton SRW. The only way to tell for sure is to weigh your trailer after it's loaded. That is another mistake I made...relying on the specs. They can be very misleading.

You didn't mention what RW you have ( or if so, I missed it). If it's a RL or RE, You WILL be way over both the axles weight rating but especially the tire rating. I tried very hard to convince myself that the almost brand new F350 SRW I had and loved could do the job...... Then I had the rig weighed and about fell over when I saw how much over the tires capacity I was on the truck axle. Trade it for a dually the next week and never looked back. Difference in towing is night and day.

Vaughan,
I feel your pain. I had a nearly new 2012 f350 SRW, when I bought the Redwood. First trip to the scales told me what I didn't want to hear....needed a DRW to support the payload. I too, bit the bullet and traded in the truck.

Oh how I want to drive a SRW truck, the ease of parking and getting around the city. Alas, with our 38' DRV's weight, a DRW is mandatory. So stable when towing. There is no comparison.

After one "White Knuckles" trip our West with our SRW, we traded for our current DRW.
Yes our DRW is a PITA to park in most parking lots but I sure enjoy the comfort and stability on the highway with our Redwood in tow.
Since we are Fulltimers and usually move our Redwood to a new adventure every few weeks year round, parking our DRW in a S&B garage is not a issue.

DLRAKOWITZ, we are taking possession of a new 2015 38GK on Monday. As we finished looking at it a few weeks ago on the lot the sales gal closed the bedroom slide while the door was open and it damaged the door frame. It has been repaired and all is good.

Yeah my dw hates my list when it comes to setting up and closing up the trailer. After closing the slide in on the door, she now has laminated procedures she carries win the trailer now

David, please send me your list. With a new 38GK, DW might buy that I didn't make the list up.
