major issues with 2016 Redwood 39FL

So after waiting for 4 months for my new 2016 Redwood 39 FL to arrive, the dealer calls me today to tell me its here. When I arrive, he opens it and extends the 5 slides and much to my surprise, the second door in the rear that leads to the bathroom is missing and instead theres a wall with storage cabinets…Not very happy at this point and I told the dealer this is not what I ordered and get me the unit with two entrances. Apparently Redwood thought this was a good idea and rather than contact the dealer just went ahead and made the change without notifying him. Secondly, the nice solid looking metal railing that leads to the front living room next to the steps has been replaced with a cheap looking rail made of wood dowels painted black. Not sure what to think at this point other than what kind of company does this? And what can I expect in the future. The dealer is calling the plant in Indiana Monday to explain the problems. Ive already told them Im not buying this.

That is why we did not purchase the Stoneridge that we were looking at... The dealer could not tell me what changes would make it and what ones would not... I was not ready to buy sight unseen...
Anytime your in mid production , you will have this...meow long ago did you order? It was probably right before up they made the changes yo the late 16 models.. I have the early 16 model....

Sorry for you problems with the new 39FL.

I agree about the 2nd Door, we saw this change during the plant tour during the Rally this summer.
I was scratching my head as to why they deleted the 2nd door, we love our 2nd door, it was one of the selling points for us.

I agree, FL's need that door in case of a fire, way to far to get to the front door. Looking at Robert's signature picture if my ladder was where his is we would be trapped without the rear door. (Ladder would be blocking emergency window)

safety for myself and privacy for anyone in the front were the two major reasons for my wanting the two door model and Im not compromising on that. It bothers me that the company would do that after I placed my order and make we wait 4 months to pull this. Either they get me a two door model or Im done dealing with Redwood. And then I have no other options in my hometown for dealers so my whole retirement plan goes down the drain for now…not good.

I agree with you that you and your dealer should have been notified of any changes.........that is just common courtesy. But, unfortunately, most manufacturer's specifications come with some "fine print" somewhere that they have the option to changes specifications without prior notice.

Yep, when they changed sides for the ladder due to the hinged storage door on the back, they put the ladder in front of the exit window

If there going to change the floor plans then they should at least change it on there home page first. The RW home page still shows the 39FL with 2 doors.

Recently when we toured the Plant and saw that new FL Floor plan, I commented that the loss of the rear door would be a deal breaker for some. I know it would be for us, as we want access to the Bathroom and at least one side of the fridge.

The other problem is if your on the road you can't even get to the bathroom without putting the slides out.

Yep, you have to open the kitchen slide to get to the bathroom if there is no rear door

I certainly understand your frustration - however ....I've ordered and received 4 5th wheels and for the most part they change what they want. I actually got one of the first flat screen TVs ever installed in our last brand, yet it was never an option or a feature in the brochure - just a midyear change. Some changes are good, some not so good - so you have to decide at this point.

We actually lucked out on our Redwood - it came in EXACTLY as ordered. I was surprised actually.

I always thought the only reason for the second door, was access with the slides in. A good reason if you ask me. I would consider no door rather short sighted or even stupid.

I can't imagine how a company that size can pull this kind of switch without some liability. I ordered this unit in July - now if I send it back I have to begin the entire process over again. And my planned retirement gets very complicated. I'm afraid if I compromise with this unit Im going to get angry from time to time living in it every time I walk past where the door should have been. But sending it back jeopardizes everything else I've planned for more than a year. The dealer tells me he's calling the plant Monday to see what can be done. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying to see another option...

Personally, I would never allow a dealer to make that type of a mod for me. Sorry, but my experience with Dealer service departments have left me with the thought that anyone off the street could do a better job. I'm sure there are reputable dealers out there but from what I read here, they are far and few between.

I would trust the Redwood Service Department to make that mod, and they would have to stand behind their work.

It's more than just the door. It would also need to have steps installed. I can't imagine the dealer or RW agreeing to modify the trailer. I think removing the door was a cost saving move.

I agree, I think it was simply a cost savings move.

Its unfortunate, many changes are driving by $$, not common sense.

Many times the people making the some of the changes have never used a RV or even spent a single night in a RV so they do not understand, its all on the screen and the bottom line.

Bottom line RW should have contacted the dealer in turn should have contacted the costomer of the change before it was built.
