We really like the Redwood 36FB, plan to order ours in the spring of 2013.My dilemma is what to use as a tow vehicle?

The Redwood salesman says I can get by with a 3/4-ton SRW, a 1-ton SRW would be better. He says I dont need a dually (DRW) truck.

When I look at the tow guides the numbers dont add up for a SRW, I spoke with a truck dealer and he said I need the 1-ton DRW.

So, who out there has a 36FB, what are you using to tow your Redwood?

Thanks,
Chuck

Here is my 2 cents and this topic has been debated through out this form, your basic dry weight is 12700 now add a couple of options and you are at 13500 - 13700 add some STUFF into your unit and you are 15000 to 15500 now you are getting to the limit of a 1 ton DRW. Your stock pin weight is 3100 now add the things we just taked about and your over 4000 now what is the box capacity of a SRW. For ME its a DRW NO other choice. Not sure this helps but just my 2 cents

Dan

I really wanted the 36FB instead of the 36RL, but due to pin weight and my truck is a 3500 SRW Ram, I went with the 36RL. The FB has an additional 500+ lbs of empty pin weight compared against the 36RL. I am a full timer, but still in the middle of my working career. My job moves me every 2-4 years so I am comfortable towing with the SRW. If I were going to on the road all the time, I would have traded my truck in a gone with the FB floor plan and a dually. A 3/4 ton truck is not enough truck to handle a coach such as the Redwood....in my humble opinion.

We pull our 36FB with a 2009 Chev 3500HD and it handles it very nicely. If you ever pull your's with a dually, You'll never go back to SRW. Just my opinion.

If I were only moving the Redwood a hundred miles or so a couple times a year I wouldn't be too concerned but as a full-timer I wouldn't go with less than a DRW diesel.
As I've said before <b style="text-decorati&#111;n: underline; ">know your weights and capacities.[/b]If you do a little homework you'll know how much your trailer weighs what your tow vehicle can safely handle. Every truck manufacturer has the load and towing capacities on their websites so there's no excuse for being ill-informed. The salesperson doesn't always know this information so never..never..never take their word that "it will handle it".

TrailsEnd I am towing with a F250 CrewCab with SRW Loaded the way I travel fishing gear, tool box outdoor 10 x 16 outside rug, 3 indoor rugs, 2 hoses, 4 lawn chairs and 2 loungers,Rhino xtra drain kit if factory not long enough. Golf clubs and cube ice chest with 60 lbs ice...After weing these were my numbers front axle (1) 4420 rear axle (2)6300 and trailer axle (3) 11140 total 21880 the rigs GCWR is 23500 so I am way below GCWR... However I was over 200 lbs rear Gawr whis is 6100...So I removed the Golf Clubs (pro bag) the ice and the two recliners which I put between the couch and the island bar/ sink which put me in a little under 6100.... Now, if you check your GVWR Mine is 9800, they make one with 10300 GVWR which will give you more allowance....This baby with Tri glide Air Pin Box pulls like a dream with the pressure at 66 PSI when the rig is loaded ( shock shroud is just below the arrow tips at this pressure) It came from the factory at about 80 psi and bucked like a rodeo bronc...I have an 18k Superglide hitch by pullrite and I can make a full 90 degree turn which I have already had to do a couple times without any problems at all.

Forgot to Add this information I put the truck on scales by it self...Front Gawr 4420 rear Gawr 3380 (including sider hitch) for Total weight 7800 Both of my weight reports from a QT truck stop scale that had just been certified as weight correct..Also when yo take the 3300 lb rear axle weight from the 6300 lb weight with the trailer attached and loaded the way I mentioned in the previous message...that makes my pin weight 3000 lbs...This includes a full 30.5 gallon tank of fuel.
